Standard Size Hose Clogging
« on: August 24, 2019, 09:53 AM »
Hey all,
Not really a problem per se, but an issue nonetheless.  When using my CT36 with the standard hose (27mm??) it clogs up very quickly on drill press wood shavings.  They sort of cling together to make a "clot" causing the hose to clog and the vac to struggle.  Would the 50mm hose solve this issue?  Any downsides to that?

50 is a big jump and I don’t think it directly fits any tools but it will certainly make it easier for big stuff to pass through. The downside is that the air velocity at the mouth of the hose will be much slower and will fail to draw some debris.
Add a tapered nozzle.

One of the larger size hoses should take care of the drill press shavings. The D50 does not fit Festool tools but it wouldn't matter on the drill press set up. However the D36 hose does fit other tools (and can be a real benefit on the routers in particular) and I am betting it would take care of the drill press shavings as well.

If you have another shop vac with a large size hose give it a try. Most regular shop vac hoses will connect to the Festool CT vacs.

I use Loc-Line 2" link hose and nozzles that I connect to my vacs w/ 2" hose (Fein- cheaper or Festool) for my drill press.

Only thing not mentioned is, if you use another (hose) ...best it’s anti static.
There are no mistakes....just new designs.

I’m with Seth on this one, try the 36mm first.  In all likelihood that will address the issue.  For the time being, if your restrictions are in the hose, straighten it out.  That might reduce the choke points enough to get by.  If it’s choking at the tool end connector, you can remove that temporarily to get by.
