Planex harness loops snapping
« on: August 18, 2019, 07:28 AM »
We recently added the Planex, 36ac, and the planex harness to our festool collection.  We are getting into ceiling texture removal, and over all very pleased with the system.

However, we are having some major problems with our harness. The loops that hold the little pouch to the harness keep on snapping loose. I feel like i have it set up as directed, so i dont think its something im doing. The tools and harness were purchased through our local Sherwin Williams rep.

I got with our SW rep to see what could be done about it. The Festool rep out of Charlotte NC, at first said we should just keep using it on the different loops, and if it kept on breaking he MIGHT be able to replace.. wth?!!?  Our SW rep finally convinced him to just replace harness.   I was looking at the harness on toolnut and a couple other online retailers after this all happened, and it appears like the harness pictured online has loops that look thicker and possibly sewn better. Has there been an update to the harness recently due to this issue? The replacement they sent looks the same as the one that snapped on us.

I asked our SW rep to ask The rep out of Charlotte if there was a newer version of the harness that we could get instead. Two weeks later he finally responds and acts like we are crazy despite me sending a pic of the online harness that looked different.

So is there an updated harness? BTW I am not at all happy with the customer service provided by The rep in Charlotte, you expect more from festool, this guy might as well be working at home depot.

Sorry to hear about your issue.  I would suggest that You contact Festool USA directly on Monday by giving them a call.

I can tell you from experience that there have been times where in images that are used in websites may not be the most current.  And this not necessarily the fault of the website owner.  There are older images out there that are supplied to them.

Lastly, I will have to do a Moderator thing with your post.  It has long been a practice here to not mention names of Festool employees in customer service situations if they don’t have the ability to respond in public.  Very few can.  I will make sure that that know about the situation for you and they will also know who you have been dealing with.

Again,  sorry to read about your issues.

Thank you for the reply, sorry about the name mention, makes sense as to why I shouldnt. Just wanted someone to know what we have been dealing with.

I did contact Festool directly first. They told me since i purchased through Sherwin Williams I would have to contact them.. If we didnt have a good paint rep they prob wouldnt have done anything.

I appreciate your understanding and have already notified Festool about this thread.  Sometimes that can help.

I always keep an eye on the ads around here for used Festools, and once in a while a Planex harness pops up. They almost always have a couple of those broken loops.

Wouldn't it be a bit odd to upgrade from this:

That's kinda what I was thinking. The "old" one looks to have much more robust loops and more surface area to be sewn.
