Title: New CT MINI1 Cutting out
Post by: Rogr on December 01, 2020, 10:33 PM
Approximately 2 month old CT MINI1 keeps cutting out after 5-8second long cuts.
5+seconds into the cut it just shuts down and the lowest suction light turns red.
Power off/on and it can fire back up but just cuts out again.

Plugged into its own 15amp outlet so it’s not sharing power on that circuit.
Cutting with the cordless TS55 so it’s not powering a tool.
Bag is empty, filter is spotless and great suction.
Also tried this on every power setting from Min to Max suction, no difference.

My only idea is that it might have to do with the Bluetooth remote I added on the hose end. I think it’s battery is almost dead because it fails to work half the time.
My curiosity is if the vac is set to shut down when the remote battery is dead? This would be pretty sad if it was made to disable the whole machine.

And that's probably not the cause. Just contact Festool service department by phone, they can help you best.

Just contacted them today, they just said the red light shut down was an overheat protection. But overheating isn’t possible. Its 2 months old and I’ve only filled the bag all the way up 1-2x and it didn’t start to climb up the hose like my old one could dozens of times.
The bag was empty, filter spotless, great suction at hose end. And I’m only making 5-8 second long (cordless) track saw cuts every 10-15 minutes.
Today at 5° below freezing I plugged it in first thing in the morning and within a second of hitting power on it shut down.
I tried to test it all day and sometimes it worked for 5-10 cuts, then 3-4x it would shut down within a few seconds.

Running the Kapex or a sander through it seemed to make no difference. Worked sometimes and cut out other times.

I need this tool every day so I’ll test my crack pot theory of the Bluetooth remote battery tomorrow, and if that actually does fix it, I am sending it back for a refund, because festool explicitly told me that cannot be an issue, so I don’t expect them to know how to fix that.

(UPDATE)
I’m going to send it in next week, but I’m convinced it’s the Bluetooth system and/or the cord activation from a tool shutting it down with the overheat code.
-3 times now it’s cut out within 10 seconds of first powering on in the morning.
-it’s cut out when using the Kapex plugged in to it, when using the cordless TS55,  the cordless Bluetooth remote, or even while using my Milwaukee M18 tablesaw with their Bluetooth OneKey batteries with the CT.

I’ve tested it now multiple times with all these things plugged in and paired, or with everything unplugged or batteries pulled out of tool except the one I’m using, and for each scenario it cuts out. And I can’t get more then 4-5 cuts without it happening, but often happens 3-5 seconds into every cut for an hour.

The reason I’m sure it’s the activation switch or Bluetooth is 4 times today just when it was cutting out every few seconds, I unplugged the tool from the vac and pulled batteries out of tools and started the CT on its own.
And all 4 times it ran for over 20minutes with no cutting out.
But all 4 times after 20min or more I’d plug a tool back in and make a cut while it was still running, and all 4 times it then cut out as soon as I started using a tool.
Even after running 20min on its own, then making a cut on a Bluetooth capable Milwaukee tablesaw next to it, it then suddenly cuts out.

This cannot possibly be an overheating issue, and wether it’s through Bluetooth or corded through the vac, it will run until a tool is being used.

The only unusual thing I’ve ever noticed about the tool (even before this problem began) is that the auxiliary plug seems really sloppy. Like if you plug a 2 pronged cord into it with no ground post, the plug can just sag down and almost fall out on its own. But it can really twist up/down a fair bit inside the outlet.

Hey there,

Having the same issue with my midi, what was the problem?
