Kapex hold down clamp - is this right?
« on: October 21, 2022, 09:53 PM »
Hi everyone,

Can someone tell me if my hold down clamp look right to you? It has been like that for a couple years. It is always a little awkward that the vertical clamp does not stay. Is mine defective?

Looks like this forum does not allow to post video. This is a link to my OneDrive share:

Thanks.

Your pic does not show any obvious problem.  The clamp is best used by placing the workpiece, pushing the clamp head down to con tact the workpiece and maintaining light pressure, then closing the clamp lever.

Thanks for the fast reply. This is the Youtube video I referred to: . At 2:21, we can see the shaft of the clamp stayed up, which is very different than mine. The reason I ask is sometimes it is quite inconvenient for me. I have to rotate the shaft side way to rest it on the fence so that I can put a board on the table.

Yours doesn't look right at all for all the Kapex hold-down clamps (3 including my own) I've used. The shaft should stay in its last position unless you push it down or lift it up.

The shaft will interfere if you want to place a board against the fence unless you use one hand to hold the shaft up. That certainly wasn't the design idea.

That is exactly I am thinking. Thanks for confirming. I am going to file a warranty claim.

Looks like the spring hasn't engaged properly in the clamp. It's not hard to dissemble and re-assemble. But a warranty claim would be best if it's convenient.

One other thing I found handy to do with the clamp, is to cut the rear of the foot off so I can swivel it left or right more so it doesn't interfere with mitre cuts.

Thanks for sharing the tips. You are absolutely right. It took me 2 minute to open the small plastic door and fixed the spring. It's all good now.

Does anyone know what pencil holder that is that Sedge has on the side of his Kapex? A cursory google search tells me there are a zillion like it but I'd rather take recommendations from you folk than the general internet populous.
