Kapex blade won’t lower
« on: July 02, 2022, 01:18 AM »
Hi relatively new Festool owner here,

I purchased a Kapex back in January, which I have been enjoying.

Today I ran into a problem, the blade won’t fully lower.
I pull the release lever on the handle, and blade lowers about 2/3 of the way then is blocked by something.
It feels like it comes up against a hard stop

I checked the trenching lever, which is not engaged.
When I do engage the trenching lever I can stop the blade in a higher position.  When I twist the lever I can lower the blade, until it reaches a point where it won’t lower any further, even if I keep twisting it.

The saw had been working fine, and literally between finishing one cut with no issue, and reaching for the next piece of timber , now blade won’t fully lower ( stopping short before teeth touch the timber. )

Not sure if I have bumped something?
Hoping someone here can tell me what I am doing wrong.

PS Kapex has been otherwise perfect!

Thanks in advance

Trenching Capability
Another unique feature of the Kapex is a special trenching capability. With the simple flip of a conveniently placed knob (shown in photo inset), you can cut trenches to create lap joints or go around pipes and other obstacles. Flip the knob back up and you're back to normal miter saw position in seconds. Turning the knob will adjust the trenching depth. Make quick, accurate dadoes with your miter saw. Now, that's smart!

Smart, yes. Unique? Not at all. DeWalt has had this feature since at least 2006. In the old shop, I had an 8 1/2" DeWalt SCMS (I don't remember the number, but it doesn't matter, it's dis-continued) that had that ability.  When I replaced it after a loss, I got a 10" DeWalt that was effectively the same saw, just bigger blade. It has that too.
The problem that they both have is that you have to shim your part forward to keep the entire trench flat. The blade cannot go far enough past the back fence to miss that radius.
That is one advantage to an actual Radial Arm Saw

You some how bumped the device that locks the head in the down position. In the photo posted by usernumber1 it is the lower green button circled. Pull it out, your problem should be resolved.

That did it!

I must have bumped the travel lock, preventing blade from lowering

Thanks all
