Late to STM 1800 party, Any Dealers have one for sale
« on: March 29, 2021, 07:19 PM »
Looking for a new or used STM 1800 from any dealer. Will pay shipping charges.

Missed out on the pre-order for the STM 1800, and Now I'm trying to catch up. Festool needs to make the STM 1800 a permanent  part of there catalog. This is a key Festool fixture for BOTH the jobsite and the DYI guy in his garage. Almost better than the MFT3.

So Festool Please bring the STM 1800 back. 2020 was a bad enough year with Covid. Add the very short available time and supply of the STM 1800 make it even a worse year.

@Greg Powers

I talked to Don Ware at Anderson Ply in Culver City ax him if he had one in stock. He said No that they were a preorder item only.

At this stage in the game, I think you would have to look to Europe to get one. People seem to find a dealer there that will ship to the US.

Call around to your local Festool dealers.  I was in Rockler(Seattle) last weekend and they had 2 or 3 of them.

Our local Rockler did not even know what the STM 1800 was. They did not stock it at all. I also tried to buy an OF2200. Was told it is not an in store stocked item and can only be ordered. I was kind of happy Rockler got the Festool line back after loosing it for a few years. But even ordering on-line it takes 3-4 week to ship and and additional 3-5 days for rockler to ship it out of the warehouse.

To clarify - I wasn't specifically advocating Rockler to find the STM, just pointing out that was one store and they had a few.  I've been to a couple other Seattle area Festool dealers and they still had one or two STM tables left.

@jarbroen I have shopped Rockler for the past 15 years. They have stuff other shops in the area do not. Some of their staff are knowledgeable woodworkers. So do not misunderstand me. They always offer to order something they do not have in stock.  And they give you free shipping when ordered at the store. The down side is your order, at Rockler will take one to four weeks. Other major ecommerce sites you can get your stuff in 1 to 2 days. Rocklers ordering process is just a little behind the times

I'm in NJ and I have a brand new STM 1800 in the garage unopened. Not sure when or if I will use it.

If anyone is interested and would like to make an offer, please message me.

Finally got too the STM1800 party! So I tossed out my plywood and sawhorse cutting table. I am looking forward to being able to pick up a full sheet of plywood onto the table without breaking my back. Once I slammed the sheet of plywood on the cutting table so hard it broke one of the plywood supports. The wheels are a surprising convenience, being able to move the STM1800 around is a very nice feature. Comes in very handy.

I picked up mine from Hartville back in February.  The box was perfect on the outside and the pins were OK.  However, a plastic sleeve was damaged and I saw a scrape on the inside of the box where it must have somehow gotten caught on the inner box side and was bent when the unit was slid into the box.  The plastic is really tough since it did not budge when I tried to bend it back.  A call to Festool took care of getting me a replacement part promptly sent out. Otherwise, everything was fine.

My box was good too.  Actually very impressed with the packing technology.

Knowing Festool, I'm going to blame all these strange damage issues on assembly line robots.  [scratch chin]

I was late to the party too. I had originally decided it was not worth it to me to spend the money on when there are plants other things on my want lists. However, with finding employees becoming more difficult and having to do a lot more myself, the value on this rose drastically. So I went in search of one to find then unavailable.

Thanks to Greg’s post, I went calling the stores he listed and wanted to update that as of yesterday, the “MacBeath Hardwoods Berkeley, California” was out of stock but their other location in Stockton, CA had three (now two) and the shipping was less than a tank of fuel for my truck. Was impressed by their customer service and working with me to get me one.

Wanted to give anyone else an update on who had some and to thank Greg for pointing me in the right direction.

@MCS-Todd I was like you when I first saw the STM1800. I thought is was way too much money for a table. I should know better now, because each time I shy away from a Festool product I am WRONG. Another example was the tool hanger on the dust extractor boom arm. For the longest time I would not buy them as they were too expensive. After I bought them I did not know how I got by without them.

Glad my research helped you find your STM 1800.   [wink]

After reading this thread, searching websites, and trying to decide if I should call California, I took a flyer on calling around to Rockler stores (not 'Independent Rockwell Resellers').

I'm in Iowa, my job's HQ is in St. Louis, so I called the Bridgeton location.  I asked about the STM 1800, but they hadn't heard of it.  They asked if I meant the MFT/3, MW 1000, or the MFT-Sys.

I considered Minneapolis-St Paul since I get up there occasionally for work, but don't plan to be there any time soon.

On to the next option, Chicagoland where my family lives.  Called the Rockler in Schaumburg, IL and talked to Tony.

"Yup, I've got 3 of 'em."
"Really? Um. Okay, I didn't expect you to have any at all, so I'm not sure what to say now.  Uh, I live in Iowa."
"We can't ship from the store."
"That's fine; can I pay for one and have my brother stop by to pick it up?"
"Sure.  No hurry, they've been here for 4 months and I haven't sold a single one.  They don't fit on the showroom floor, so nobody knows about them."

I checked with my brother, who said, "I mean, I can pay for it, too, and you can just pay me back unless it's like $500 or something."

"Well, it's a Festool, so, um, it's not JUST $500?"

*much laughing from the other line*

Called back later and talked to Jeff who had to find them again buried in the back room and took my payment information.

Bottom line, Rockler in Schaumburg, IL now has only 2 left in stock.  But they're probably not going anywhere any time soon if someone else needs one.  If you're still looking, it's probably worth calling a Rockler Retailer, especially if it's one without a ton of floor space.

Just do me a favor: if you know my name and my brother's name, please don't go over there and pretend to be him and take my unit before he can get there.  [wink]

Thanks Festool for making the STM1800 available in limited supply on August 3, 2021. So if your still looking for a STM180 here is your chance to get one. Better act fast before they are all gone. I missed out the first time and had to search high and low to get one.

After a mixup of thinking I had a STM 1800 secured at a semi-local dealer, only to get there and it turned out to be a MFT/3, I now have a STM 1800 in the back of my car. Thank you Woodcraft!

Thanks for the tip, called Rockler in Schaumburg this morning and they told me they had one in stock, so I got the last one. They set it aside and I drove a several hours to get. Rockler in Schaumburg now has 0 in stock.
