I was fortunate enough to get the CT Mini.  It arrived yesterday and was basically brand new.  It came with a new filter and was a little dusty, but I wiped it down and looks brand new.  The manufacturing date on mine was 02/2015.  I'm pleased with the condition and price I paid for it.

@DynaGlide

$367.50  Tennessee with tax = $403.33 difference between new and recon = $86.67 (new with 3yr warranty and 30 day return option)
$367.50  Virginia with tax    = $386.97 difference between new and recon = $103.03(new with 3yr warranty and 30 day return option)

Each person will make a decision that best suites their needs. This particular scenario, because I am not in the market for this sander, does not impact me at all.  However, I have laid out the current example above to demonstrate how I would analyze this purchase.

For a difference of $86.67, I would tend to purchase new, get the full three year warranty and 30 day return option.  Having said that, for a difference of $103.03 (as in the case of Virginia sales tax), I might not.   Each offer requires the same comparison of recon vs. new, and how the particular tool in question impacts your work flow, how important is the three year warranty, and your level of certainty with wanting the tool in question.

I'd like to add how impressed I am with Festool switching out your 2005 machine with a newer one.  I am equally impressed with how Tyler takes care of everyone on FOG, when problems arise.  I love my Festool tools, and enjoy using them every chance I get.  They are certainly making my retirement much more enjoyable!

I agree with everything you've said. I will comment however that a 2005 machine should not have been sent out in the first place.

Most of my Festool collection was purchased "used" on Craigslist at 30-50% off list. It took some time, but every single tool I bought looks brand new. There are a handful of items that rarely come up, and when they do, seem to be abused (DF700, EC150/3). Rather than wait for a Craigslist deal, I decided to go recon because of Tyler @Festool USA. The comment above and similar others gave me the confidence that I wouldn't be left holding the bag on an old/scuffed/abused item. Now, back to searching for a mint condition Midi!

All this talk about the manufacture date on their reconditioned tools got me worried.  I just checked the reconditioned RO150 that I bought back in October - it shows 06/17 - I guess that was made in June of 2017.  If that's the case it's very new.  The sander did have some minor signs of use, but it looked fine to me.

I also feel a little dumb - I was complaining earlier that I didn't think the discount on the ETS EC 150/3 was very good.  The discount was $101.97 off the new price.  I got my reconditioned RO150 for a discount of $107.51 and I was ecstatic about the savings.  Both discounts included VA sales tax.  I guess I'm a little inconsistent in what I think is a good deal.  [embarassed]

Speaking of the sales tax - I emailed sales@festoolrecon.com to get that extra local city county tax refunded since I don't live anywhere near that city.  Is there some other email address that I should use to inquire about this refund?

I agree with your statement. How much was a new RO125 back in 2005?

Sorry in advance, this statement will be a little off topic. My main complaint about the annual price increase is that a lot of these tools haven’t been updated in over a decade but the price keeps going up. If that 2005 tool was used and returned a decade ago, I can’t agree with them discounting it from today’s prices. From Festool’s prospective however, this brilliant. They can create a new tool once every decade or two, increase the price every year (above the inflation rate), and make more and more money. That’s a good business model actually. Especially since we keep buying the tools. I just wished they were more inivative and kept up with some of the other advancements such as LED’s and more brushless motors instead of slapping a new (inferior) dust port on old model tools.

I did not participate in this recon sale. I prefer to buy new tools and I really don’t need or want anything right now. I did buy a few tools from a recon sale a few years ago and was very pleased with the condition and price. I can’t remember exactly, but I believe that I bought my first CT48 through Bob at 40% off and it looked almost new.

Not to turn this into a @TylerC lovefest, but I made a recon purchase early Tuesday afternoon and immediately after receiving the confirmation, emailed sales@festoolrecon.com regarding shipping ETA (I'm heading out of town this weekend for the holidays).  I hadn't received a response by close to noon on Wednesday, so I PM'd Tyler.  Within 15 minutes, he returned my PM, indicating that he would try to get me some answers.  Shortly after, I received a phone call  from a Festool employee involved with the Recon sale.

I only joined the FOG a month ago, but have visited the site for several years.  To echo @McNally Family, I've always been beyond impressed with Tyler's ability to handle questions/comments/concerns/essentially any and all issues in a timely and appropriate manner.  Kudos to him  [thumbs up]

In all seriousness, while I have my issues with some of corporate Festool's policies, decisions, directions, etc., every FUSA employee I've interacted with, from Tyler (and Shane previously) to others on the admin staff and in the repair department, has been courteous and responsive.

I'm going to echo what others are saying -- fast responses from @TylerC gave me confidence that even if something would be wrong with a recon sale item, Festool is willing to make it right. So I just recently purchased a DWC 18 set at a great price ($262! less than Milwaukee!), regardless of the sales tax.

I'm refinishing my basement shop with soundproofing in mind, so hanging lots of drywall, DWC will certainly come in handy. I do have a DeWalt cordless drywall gun, but it's extremely loud and inconsistent with screw driving depth. About 20-30% of screws have to be hand-tightened or re-screwed altogether. On a separate note, I'm surprised so few people praise Festool on their sound signature. Their tools are either way more quiet or sound much more pleasant than competitor's tools.

I am also somewhat new to Festool (purchase my first tool in 2016), so I haven't had any experience with the previous recon sales, so the older format might've been better, but I'm loving this new format so far. I'm eagerly waiting for what is next as it's always a surprise. BTW, had zero issues with email delivery, I usually get an email 2-3 minutes after a new posting goes live.

I've been critical of this implementation of Festool Recon Sale but in the end it was pretty good to me.

Even though I couldn't buy the large Domino which was my goal I did buy a vacuum pump and an OF 2200, both of which arrived unused, assembled in early 2016.

I bought a Rotex 150 on December 18th from the recon sale.  Still has not been delivered because someone at Festool shipped it to my PO box billing address instead of my shipping street address.  All of the information was correct on the confirmation email.

Good thing I have periodically checked on the UPS delivery status and figured out that the delivery address was wrong.  UPS has been a huge hassle to deal with.  I gave UPS the correct address on Tuesday the 26th.  Today I received a text message stating that it would be delivered by 7:00PM ET.  No joy.  I checked the UPS website again and now it says holding for pickup.  So I called again to ask why it was not delivered.  They did not know why.  Anyway, keeping my fingers crossed that it is delivered tomorrow.

Exact same thing happened to me today! I have only one address on file with the recon website and have successfully received tools in the past. My order on December 21 didn’t seem to be shipping so I emailed Festool yesterday. Less than an hour later I got a tracking number. I checked it today, only to see that they shipped it on the 21st, but that a delivery error occurred. They used the address of my office, which I had moved out of 4 years ago. I then spent 2 hours escalating a change of address through the various supervisors at UPS, who initially demanded that I drive to the depot, 45 minutes away to get the package. I’m normally not one to complain, but all the savings on the tool were eaten up with the time I lost from work. Better be in brand new condition, because at this point, I’ve paid full price.

Why hasn’t anyone asked the simple question of why when someone joins the festoolrecon website, fills out all the applicable personal forms, subscribes to be on the email notification list, and then provides a user name and a password................why, when they purchase a recon tool and login to their account, why do they have to re-input all of that data? It’s already there, it already exists. Apple Pay doesn’t make you go through the added hoops. This is just one more annoyance that needs to be cleared up before the next recon sale.  [mad]   [mad]   [mad]

Most companies use a third party for E-commerce.  This is due to liability with handling personal information.  As result, they just link the Ecommerce parties page to the Festools Recon website.  You go to this third party when you go out to pay. The Festool Recon webpage sends them the total costs through API calls. This means that Festool does not keep any of your personal information dealing with the transaction.  This means that you have to re-enter all your information. :-(  Apple, on the other hand, owns the E-commerce solution and they take legal responsibility for your personal information.  Most companies don't want take on the risk of this business that is why Paypal, Chase Google and Apple pay are doing all the transactions on the web.  I know it a pain, but that is part of the world we live in.  Just look at the recent hack from one of the major credit transaction firms.  160,000,000 peoples information was stolen.

Well, I received the Rotex 150 today after the delay caused by Festool shipping it to my Po Box.  The tool was definitely used (01/2016 date on the label) and not in new condition.

The Rotex has a few marks on it that look like it was used to sand drywall or something painted white.  The plug-it cord looks like it was dragged around a dirty floor.  I think Festool put a brand new pad on it and called it good.  I have my doubts that anyone at Festool actually did anything more than a quick visual check.  Doubt that it was turned on and run through a function test.

25% off is not enough for what I got after after taxes and the loss of two years of warranty.  If it still came with the standard three year warranty, then 25% off would be about right, imo.

The 2200 router I also purchased from the recon sale is like new and has a 2015 date on it.

Festool should stop calling this a recon sale because they are not selling reconditioned tools.  Most appear to be either used tools or essentially new tools that have been returned within the 30 day trial period.

I'll give some feedback on my experience. I purchased a TS 75 EQ-F Plus and Carvex PSB 420 EBQ Jigsaw from the festool recon sale. I rarely if ever purchase reconditioned stuff as I just prefer to have brand new and I take very good care of my stuff. I am just a hobbyist and I wouldn't use either of these very often since I already own the Ts 55 and the barrel grip Carvex. I figured I would try out the recon sale since a lot of you have been happy.

The jig saw looks brand new. No dust, no scuffs, plug it cord wrapped like its new. SUPER happy with this one.  [big grin]

The TS 75, definitely has been used. Some scuffs and dust all over it.  It looks like it was lightly used though. Rail looks brand new. The plug it cord however was thrown in there, looks like it was dragged over the floor and has a slice in it. I wouldn't be surprised if the plug it cord caused some of the scuffing on the saw. And the cleantec fitting is broke. I could see how u could miss the slice in the plug it cord, but not sure how one missed the cleantec fitting being broke. Maybe it was done in shipping, but I kind of doubt it. I contacted festool, we'll see what they do. I was hoping it would be in as good of shape as the jig saw, but if i got a new plug it cord and a new dust fitting I would be satisfied with the purchase for the money saved.  [smile]

One would think that if your "reconditioning" a tool, you would blow it out with compressed air to get rid of the dust and wipe down the tool with some cleaner which would probably remove a lot of scuffing and make it look like new.

Just now getting around to testing out the Domino XL recon I bought in October. The tool looked brand new, but now I know why it was a returned tool, the fence is heavily bowed. Hard to understand how milled aluminum can be bowed like that.

Thanks for the heads-up...I'll check my recon XL today. Mine also looks brand new.  [unsure]

I'd think Festool would automatically replace the defective part...unless this is the "one that got away". [tongue]

As I have pointed out before in this thread, Festool is not thoroughly checking out these tools, if at all.

They really should have a check list for each tool and then include it in the systainer.
