Festool Recon sale
« on: February 20, 2021, 04:25 PM »
This was my first Recon sale.  I noticed in the beginning they would put up one item at a time, and they could go quick.  I saw six items go up in 30 minutes one day.  (I nabbed the 1400 router in that period).  Then later they would put up 60 or 70 items at a time.  My questions:  Is the sale now over, and if so what do they do with the remaining items?  Will they go out to dealers to sell as Recon?  How was the sales conducted in the past-single item or mass item?  Is the 25% discount about normal?  I did notice one item was 50% (even though it was acurrent model), one was 30% off, and another was 1/3 off, but most were 25%.  Are most people satisfied with their purchases?

I bought a few items-two quite old (2016) some very new, and on one item I got snookered when items went up quick just because I did not have time to do research.  I bought a pre-Bluetooth Midi that was used for drywall.  Machine was still dusty and I had to take wheels apart and clean out the drywall sludge so they would turn.  The older items I purchased early in the sale, when one item at a time went up.  The later ones were late in the sale.

Just would like to hear some feedback on how this sale compared to other ones.

Festool keeps mixing it up.  This was similar to what they have done in the past for black Friday.  Where they open it up with a lot of tools. The short window of time was new.

Obviously COVID impacted things. They had almost no normal recon thru 2020, but tools would have been coming back in all year. I'm sure their warehouse was getting full and they had to purge out stuff.  I would assume they will either go back to normal mode with 1 tool at a time, or if this is driven by staffing constraints, they will build a pile up and do this again at some point.

I would guess the tools that didn't sell, they will just keep trying. At some point they might just get destroyed/scrapped, or used for parts for repairs.  They could in theory donate them to say High School shops local to the area, or other places that could put them to use (Habitat for Humanity). But I doubt they do that.  Most will sell at some point.  Leave them up there long enough, lower the price enough, someone will re-home it. One way or another they will find a way to move them out.

Yes, the bigger sale does appear to be over but you never know with Recon. Yes, 25% Is the discount for the majority of items but as you said it is sometimes greater and sometimes lesser. I saw a CT15 recently that was only about 15% off. Personally I am of the belief that the items that did not sell get put back into their little corner of the warehouse only to reappear in the future.

From my own personal experience and what I have read here for years I would say that most of us are very satisfied with our Recon purchases. I would also say that in my experience that for those that are not, that take the time to call Festool in Indiana and talk to the Recon folks, that they almost always make it right if given the chance. No organization bats a thousand but they are pretty darn good.

If I have a part missing and discontent on the condition of the blade for a kapex, which service number should I be calling?

When I bought my track saw it was missing the splinter guard and hex wrench. I replied to the email that I got confirming my order and they shipped the items out quickly.

I'm new to the idea of Festool Reconditioned tools.  Thought about the CSX, but wondering about if I would be getting a tool with compromised battery.  I guess the one year warranty would take care of it short term, but if there is a longer term issue with the battery maybe the savings are not worth it?  Any thoughts about the reconditioned battery tools?

I bought a cordless sander from recon a couple of years ago, the batteries are fine. The whole kit was indistinguishable from new. Mileage may vary, but that was my experience.
