Hello, FOG friends, some exciting news!

Festool USA has announced that the new Festool TID 18 Impact Driver will be coming to the U.S. market on July 1st starting at only $199, pre-order now!

PRE-ORDER NOW!

With the new TID 18 also comes seven combo kits which include the impact driver and one or more other tools, offering a savings of up to $499 versus purchasing separately.

Also, we're getting a new version of the T 18 with a permanent fixed keyless chuck called the T 18 E (Easy). It is not compatible with Centrotec chucks and the included chuck cannot be removed. For those who do not need the capability offered by the Centrotec chucks, this will offer a better value and affordable option for a Festool drill driver.

As a reminder, all Festool power tools (including batteries and chargers) come with a comprehensive 3-year warranty that covers wear and tear while including free shipping to and from the repair center if needed. This is a great value, and it's virtually unheard of for a warranty to cover wear and tear.

PRE-ORDER NOW!

I think you are going to be busy with this one?  🤓

I have a few questions.

C18, TID 18 Combo kit?

4.0 compact batteries or 3.1?

Any images of the combo inserts yet?

Thanks Shane

@Samo

No combo kits with the C18 unfortunately.

Festool is transitioning all cordless tools that used to come with 3.1Ah to 4.0Ah batteries. The new kits have 4.0Ah batteries. Some of the kits that have saws have 5.2Ah batteries.

The PDC + TID and T18 + TID kits share a single Systainer. I think I saw a photo of the inside of the Sys³ with these two drills, let me see if I can find a photo for you. The 4-tool kits will come in multiple Systainers.

Hey Shane - on the ToolNut site it says 3.1 batteries: "Festool 576480 TID 18 Cordless 18V Impact Driver PLUS 3.1Ah Kit"

The 4.0ah batteries sound great.  I've been holding out on getting new batteries.

@jarbroen, yes, this is my mistake and it has been corrected.

The new Festool 4.0Ah battery is also available separately.

Does the purchase come with a bit holder/adapter for the chuck like most of their drills have in the past? I dont see it in the description?

If not, is there one that can handle both standard drivers AND centrotec?

Pre-order placed! Ive been waiting for a festool impact for a long time.  My 10 year old makita has served me well and is about to be retired.

Wow! $199  you ‘mericans got it good in this one.

And what’s this about the T18 Easy? Is this another rare example of OAINA? (Only available in North America)

@ForumMFG the Festool impact driver uses standard 1/4" hex bits, no adapter or bit holder required. Festool has some impact-ready bits available and there are also bits in lengths up to at least 6" available from other brands.

I didn't investigate this tool because I figured it would be at least a year before it got to the US, but has there been any discussion about why the TID is better than other brands' impact drivers? (Other than it is Festool and uses the same batteries). In particular, I'm curious about how loud it is compared to other impacts, specifically the "Surge" type hydraulic impacts. Thanks!

@elfick replying in this thread to keep it with the topic of the TID 18.

There's nothing in Festool's communication to indicate that the TID 18 uses oil or some other method for reducing noise like the SURGE series from another brand.

Do you know if they have published noise specs?
Thanks!

From my minimal lockdown usage, the festool TID is no quieter than the average impact driver.

It’s very similar in weight and form as the std 18v Makita impact that has been common for 5+ years.

It does feel quite refined in usage. I’ve been picking it up around the house for some very small screws and it’s been perfectly delicate in power delivery.

But I think that ultimately there is no reason to buy this other than already owning the festool battery platform and wanting to add an impact driver to your kit. But that’s fine by me. Although I’d have preferred a ‘quiet’ one :)

@Shane Holland , how long are the package deals going to be around for?

Here's where Festool screwed the pooch...  If they had shipped the Kapex package deals when they said they would, then I would have had that almost a month ago, and maybe taken advantage of one of these packages.  But with the Kapex deals not shipping until August 1 (and I'm not holding my breath) and then the STM shipping October 1, it's way too much $$$ in too short a time.

Hopefully these package deals will be around for a while.

For anyone interested in the range of Festool drills, here's a video posted only a few days ago going over the various tools. The TID 18 is near the end around the 40-minute mark.

Will it be possible to get the impact only with the combo systainer?  I already own a PDC and would like to have both drills in one systainer. If I recall Festool offered something like that in the past.

@Bhend18 Festool USA offers the inserts as spare parts. HOWEVER, the Systainer3 is not available in the U.S. separately at the moment. So, eventually, you would be able to get both. No ETA on the new Systainers at this time.

been waiting on this to get into the Festool 18v game...seems like the "deal" is to get the t18 e with batteries and then buy the TID bare.  Two systainers, and still cheaper than the T18/TID set...am I missing something?

@rexdp10 The T18 E (Easy) does not support the Centrotec chuck system. The chuck is fixed and cannot be removed. So, it's not identical to the T18 that comes in the combo kit. If you don't need the interchangeable chucks, the T18 E may be the right choice for you.

@Bhend18 I am going to have to ask some of our forum friends to answer this question. I'm not 100% sure of the compatibility between T-LOC and Sys Gen 3 inserts. I know the footprint is the same but unsure if any internal changes would be an issue. Or, potentially the height which has changed.

Maybe @DerickC or @Festool USA can answer including potential availability of the insert as a spare part.

These prices are in line with massive multinationals, hundreds of times the size of Festool, that are large enough to spread smaller margins and manufacture in countries with low wages and minimal health, safety and environmental regulations.   I’m very impressed.

The insert for my TID 18 will fit into a T-loc Systainer. It’s very tight, but no damage was done inserting and removing it.

The TID + T18 bundle seems a bit odd - you get the drill with the FastFix interface but only the keyless chuck, not the offset, right angle or even Centrotec.  To me it seems like a bundle with the TID and T18E (fixed keyless chuck) would make more sense especially for the U.S. & Canada market where Centrotec bits are much less common than conventional round or hex shank bits.

As best I can tell the only way to get the TID + T18E is to get each separately, maybe one set and one bare tool.  But you end up paying for an additional Systainer and I am not sure if either of the separate items has an insert suitable for both tools.
