Router dust shoe plate for router sled
« on: January 25, 2020, 01:47 AM »
Hello everyone,

I always wanted to use a router sled to flatten large board but the dust generated by the process is really too intense. For a long time, I tried to find a way to control the dust but the only way was to find a dust shoe like the ones on the CNC machines. Since nothing was available, I gave up until one of my colleague told me about his new 3d printing machine he bought and wanted to test. First, I checked on thingiverse to find Festool related stuff (ex. 27mm Dust attachment for my Kreg jig, surface clamp, etc.). Then I thought about my router sled dust shoe and I did a 3d model on Blender by taking a scan of my router plate (Bosch 1617 plunge base) and by adding the CNC brush slot. I then bought the CNC brush on Amazon and this is the result.

This is the first prototype and I'm pretty happy with it. I haven't tried it yet but it should greatly reduce the dust generated by the router with the dust adapter attached to it.

Very cool, the biggest downside of my router sled is dust and chips get everywhere.
