New MFT-style top owner with a question.
« on: November 06, 2022, 08:14 PM »
Hi all, I've been jonesing for an MFT-stye top and when I discovered that @TSO Products had free CNC files available I was off to my local CNC company quick as a wink.
I had a 54" x 29" top made and picked it up on Friday. Very stoked.
I'd like to have a fence with a length stop.
I saw the Lee Valley Quad fence in this post
The question I have is that in that post, Qwas dogs are used to secure the fence. So far as I can tell those dogs are no longer available.
Is there an alternative to those dogs?

Welcome to the slippery slope & the FOG.

Benchdogs has some options, they are in the UK but ship to the US. Axminster, also in the UK, has their own fence versions, with free shipping on $120. I've received stuff from both in < a week.

As of 10/17 I am out of the Dog business and pursuing other distractions. Thanks for a fun ride!

Ah thanks @Richard/RMW. I didn't think of looking at the UK suppliers.

TSO has a bunch of different bench dogs and they also carry some of the Axminster stuff.

Not familiar with your specific application but they probably have something suitable.

HI, that is my post with the Quad fence and Qwas dogs. For my table, I needed to keep the pivot point in the middle of the Quad track edge to align with the angle marks etched into the table and the indexing pin holes for the miter option to work properly. It was just the way I designed the angle system to work with the Qwas dogs and Quad track.

Without the miter complication, any dog system that holds the track in good alignment to the holes will work. The Qwas dogs work well for alignment because the shoulder on top of the dog has a good fit in the track channel. They do not hold the fence tight to the table though, so require some other method of doing that.

The Quad track with the ruler on the movable wooden piece works very well, and I use it in other applications. It makes it easy to calibrate the fence. One thing I have changed is I now glue a piece of laminate to the top edge of the wood, so the tape sticks better.

I have been extremely happy with the imperial version of Benchdogs UK fence.  I love the under-rail support and right hand fence. Here is a review by Peter Millard (youtu.be/KXBdxdeM_3Y).

THANK you!  I couldn’t figure out why that wouldn’t work.  Any tips to a new poster is appreciated for including YouTube links.

Thanks for all the replies. I've ordered the UJK fence system.

@DavidR8  - TSO and AXMINStER UJK have embarked on an expanded North American presence of UJK products in TSO's Minnesota USA warehouse and TSO's website.
Which UJK fence length did you choose?
