MFT Sanding Table??
« on: April 26, 2007, 07:32 PM »
New to the group with a few Festool items in the shop. Had the idea of building a box under my MFT to turn it into a downdraft sander for hand work, and what the dust collection on the sander forgets. Anyone done this?

I have a downdraft table attached to the back of my bench, hinged so it folds down, that i used to use for that purpose before getting the Festool Sanders.   Effectivley it is 30" x 42" x 4" deep with 3/4" holes 2" on center. It hasn't been used for anything except support and workspace since I got Festool.  All my other brands of sanders sit idle.  It did work well with my DC to get the dust from my Bosch & PC sanders, but at this point, I guess it has outlived it's purpose.

Renthal,

Sorry, but I don't understand.  What is this "dust" of which you speak?   I'd like to help, but I'm really not familiar with it.

Y'll have a nice day now!   ;D

Dan.

During hand sanding or heavy belt sanding, an air box installed under the MFT would let it act as a downdraft sanding table,  catching anything the dust collection on the sander missed.

I thought of that but I could not figure out a way to do it where it wouldn't hinder my clamping.  The issue is I reach under the table sometimes to clamp things.  Neet idear thought as long as you don't need to get under the table. I was going to use plywood but it would also increse the weight of the table allot.
