(Almost) Free Edge Stops & Parallel Guides
« on: September 05, 2018, 11:38 AM »
I recently acquired a LR 32 guide plate from a FOG member and want to build the rest of the kit without spending $500+.  The Edge Stops are quite expensive so I thought I would build my own. Everything but the hardware and stick on ruler (on order) came from scrap lying around my shop. The stop rails attach to the guide rail using the Festool 491582 Limit Stops, which I already had. I made the angle pieces 14 inches long - just because my scrap angle stock was 28 inch length. I still need to attach stick on rulers (paper scale shown for illustration) and attach an appropriate pin or dowel on the bottom of the blocks. My pair are mirror images but the only difference is how I cut the angle on the limit stop end. (and direction of scale) Just pivot 180 degrees on the rail and they become parallel guides. (one could easily notch the top of the clamp pad and add a second indicator and scale to the angle for this function) Thanks to the FOG for the inspiration.

(2) 1.25 inch lag bolt (1/4 inch 20 TPI)
(2) 1/4 inch 20 TPI knob (could use wing nut)
(2) 1/4 inch flat washer
(2) pieces 3/4 inch aluminum angle
3/4 inch and 1/4 inch scrap plywood
Appropriate Stick on scale
Scrap hardwood
Scrap plexiglass
