$20 Parallel Jig for Guide Rail
« on: January 23, 2016, 11:02 AM »
I had 11 sheets of melamine to break down for a closet.  I decide that if I had some parallel guides it would make my life easier and faster.

These are the materials that I use;
2qnty 7 x 5 1/2 x 3/4in maple
2qnty 2 x 5 x 3/4in maple
4ft Kreg t-track
6qnty 1/4x20 t-bolts
2qnty 1/4x20 knobs
4qnty 1/4x20 wing nuts

I took the maple 7 x 5 x 3/4 in maple blocks and laid out where the Festool Guide rail and the Kreg t-track would be located.  After I laid out the lines, I went to my table saw to dado a slot for the t-track and a rabbet for the guide rail.   I cut bevels in the blocks at 30 degrees.   I took the 2 x 5 x 3/4 in blocks and put a dado down the middle so that they would ride down the t-track square, and then cut 30 degree bevels.

Now to the drill press to add some 1/4 in holes for the t-bolts.

I cut the t-tracks at 18 in long.  I assembled everything and they work great.   One issue is being that I used wing nuts, my max cutting depth is 1 in.   The motor hosing of the ts55 saw will hit the wings nuts if I make a deeper cut.   Its not a big deal for me being that I'm only using the parallel guides to cut down 3/4 and 1/2 ply material.   If I used a smaller nut I would be able to cut 1 1/2 in material.  Any deeper I would use my ts75.
