OF-1010 REQ micro adjust
« on: January 01, 2023, 06:53 PM »
i am going to route some dados using the 1010 with an 18mm straight bit.  If the plywood doesn't quite fit into the dado, what's the best way to adjust for a precise fit?  That router used to have an accessory, the Of-WA I think, which was a micro adjuster that worked on the old model but it's no longer listed on the Festoolusa website. What's the best practice for this operation using the router?  I also have a 1400 but it's mounted in my CMS table so I don't want to remove it if I don't have to.

Do note that the OF 1010 edge guide fits *both* the OF 1010 as well as the 1010 REQ:

Not sure why the compatibility list is not mentioned on the Festool USA site ..

From what I gaher, all accessories which use the rods or screw to the base are compatible between the whole OF 900/1000/1010/1010 R range.

So you can use the dedicated fine adjuster for it as for the OF 1010:
https://www.toolnirvana.com/collections/router-accessories/products/festool-483358-fine-adjuster-for-of-1010-edge-guide

My personal advice is get to the edge guide, two of them actually - so you can use them for edge routing like for hinges. And get one fine adjuster for them. *)

And get the micro adjuster noted as well.
It is useful in some other use cases. To be short - stock up on most/all accessories for the OF 1010 R. They completely transform what can be done with the tool. Buying an OF 1010 and skimping on accessories, is IMO losing like 60% of the value the tool brings. But I do not am your purse master.
:D

*) EDIT: Just now noticed the Q was not for edge referencing

The main thing to pay attention to when using any type of micro adjuster to widen a groove with a router is which direction you adjust toward. Whether you are using an edge guide, or with the rail, you do not want to get into a climb-cut situation.

This applies to router tables too. If you run a groove and need to widen it, you must move the fence back. This puts the newly cut area in the front. Having it cut the area between the part and the fence is an accident waiting to happen.
