Festool sanders and 3M Cubitron Xtract sandpaper problems
« on: November 20, 2022, 03:50 PM »
I just saw this video ... and he's right the 3M disks don't stick very well and may move when sanding. I also didn't realize that Festool make a pad protector

Is it a good idea or not?

Festool make pad protectors to go with the mesh abrasives that they have available (Granat Net).

3M recommends protection pads in their docs. Festool recommends them when using Granat Net. I'd say that's a yes.

I use the pad protectors even with plain granat discs; the less wear on the actual (expensive) pad, the better.

I have been using the 3M Cubitron with the Festool pad protector.   Works pretty well.

Just be aware that pad protectors provide some extra cushion which is not always desirable.
