T-Loc 3 Sandpaper insert
« on: May 11, 2021, 07:56 PM »
I'm still learning the ins and outs of Systainers and recently bought a sand paper insert designed for T-Loc 3 and was going to put in my Sys3 337 but it looks like the inside dimensions are different and the insert won't fit.  It's not due to height but overall layout of the interior seems different.  Am I missing something or do T-Loc inserts not fit in Sys3 Systainers?

Also, If try and put this insert designed for a T-Loc 3 inside a T-Loc 4 will that sitll work?  The only difference is height correct?

The interior layout of the Sys Gen3 and TLoc are, in fact, different.

You are correct that you can use an insert designed for a Sys-III TLoc in a Sys-IV, it'll just have a lot of airspace above it.

That's a bummer.  Hopefully they will come out with more inserts for Sys3.  I'm not concerned about the extra space as I'll need it for something else.

There are Festool/Tanos-branded inserts/systainers in the new Sys3 model for the DTS/RTS/125 papers, the DX93/RO90 papers, and the 150 papers.  They even have a version of the RO90 and D125 systainers pre-filled with an assortment of papers.

Or do you mean aftermarket inserts?

Not sure what size you're looking for or if laying flat is a must, but I bought this TLoc3 150 Insert off Ebay recently. $40 shipped - its pretty robust, very well made and the labels that come with are a plus. 10 compartments keeps my primary grits separate with a few specialty grits combined. 125 abrasives may fit a TLoc2 and most of the online retailers have the RO90 Systainer on sale FWIW.

This is similar to the one I have except it has 6 dividers.  I'm actually going to use it to store various tools instead of sandpaper.  I found this to be a better option than all of their inserts that are intended for tool storage.  So far it looks quite promising, I can fit drill and various meters quite well in it and I'll pick up a T-Loc 4 to put it in.

I picked up one from eBay as well for a TLoc 2 - it works quite well.

A person could just make an insert exactly as they desire for cheap, or possibly even from scrap they have on hand, similar to the image posted above. ABS is my material of choice for it's ease of working with and strength to weight ratio. I buy sheets of ABS every now and again.

You can make the same from cardboard, hardboard, plywood... aluminium sheet, anything really.

Very true. My billable rate is $70/hr. I don’t think I could make that in an hour if I had the materials on hand.

Why make anything when you can just buy it?  [tongue] Ikea is the furniture king...and take-out/Door-Dash means you never have to cook.

I fabricate stuff because it is fun to design and build usable items. Often I can improve upon others ideas, just not so much with a sandpaper holder though.

Can’t argue there. Ikea makes great products. This sand paper holder is a great way to make use of a vacuum hose systainer. It’s well designed, an improvement to the expensive Festool unit, well built, with maximized effiecency for my personal use. This is not a sponsored add.

Yes, half of that is transport, tax and insurance and what is left is spend on things that consist of half tax, transport and insurace. This stuff you can make yourself in an odd leftover hour and you don't have to pay any taxes on.

You’re totally right, I had misspoken. I think my billable is around $120, sound right? Back to the OP, if you’re looking to purchase a sand paper insert, reach out to that guy and see if he has anything for the new systainer. Taxation is theft
