So, maybe somewhere between pages 1 & 6 this was mentioned. I didn't take the time to look (my apologies).

It looks to me like the new Vario3/1 (can't tell , maybe the new Vario3/2 as well) handle sticks out when it is locked to something below it (the T-loc handle pushes it out). If so, I am sure some enterprising 3d printer designer will come up with a notched handle to fix that.

I couldn't find any information on the slides (didn't say it wasn't there) for the Vario3.  My frustration in the shop for not making sliding drawers/shelves is that I have to kneel down, set the box on the floor, rummage through it, put it back on the shelf (if it's where I need to work) reverse those steps to grab what ever it is I forgot or now need, put the device away.  I wonder if there are telescoping slides for these.  Even in a van (maybe even more important) it would be nice. Not everything goes onto the job site with you.

For now, I suspect folks will either:

Give up on ever using vario3, sell them off.

Work with a blended operation. Maybe build spacers for site stacks (either for MFT/MW100 use, or just to level off the work space). Currently, I find the T-Loc style a real pain in the ass to get a flat stack anyhow (I could copy a chart off and stick it to the mft leg and the MW1000 I guess; even when not using them they are a pain).  When it is a work surface, I just live with the variability, and generally (other than a support for long material) avoid using them for general use as a work surface.  Because as soon as I do, I need into one of them anyhow (really thinking about concentrating on Sortainers for several reasons, though this is a good one).

When the variety of Vario3 models is available, and enough are already in your shop/van, sell/swap T-Loc Systainers and transition to the new ones.

The 'gotcha' may be the gen 1 Systainers. I'd love to replace what I have for my vac clamp. I have a really strong dislike for them. Hoping they replace them very soon, aside from a couple I keep extra machinery parts in on a shelf way up & in the back of my shop, I avoid using them.

The Systainer 3 are really the same as the TLOC so there’s not a huge difference. I got a systainer 3 when I got my ETS EC 125 recently. The handle on the front is nice for those that like to carry it like a Dewalt Tstak toolbox.

I recently picked up a pdc 18/4 drill which came in the old style attic tloc obviously very handy for storing the drill bit sets. But l notice the very latest version of this drill comes in a systainer3 which seems to have dropped the attic.

Maybe they're working on an attic version, shame about that loss of utility in the interim.

Seriously, I am a freak about having lid systainers loaded with bits.

My new drill/impact combination came in a SYS3 and I relied on the attic - a lot. There doesn't seem to be one. And the new heights screws up my Sys 1000s of which I have several.

Realised the carrying straps that slot into the table holders don't work on the New SYSTAINER³.  I already thought it was a shame these label slots had gone from the sides of the SYSTAINER³, but now I realised new label slots don't take the clips well/easily, and with any real weight they pop out anyway.

Another downer for me with the new SYSTAINER³. I'm always moving a sys or two around with those quick fitting shoulder straps.

Maybe not a huge, "ooooh look at what they've done now" difference.   But the cumulative effects of the small changes like the height difference, the handle staying proud when stacked, card slots going away and the strap omission along with the half baked no attic lid solution make this a loser for me.  Especially no attic lid.   Those are useful and expensive additions to the storage system.

For every one that thinks the "free" handle is the bee's knees, I'll bet there are two that think the lack of one of the other things I mentioned is a distinct drawback.   And for what ?    The ability to potentially sell some van racking systems to commercial customers ???

Good luck with that Festool.

Festool already has to manage different country specific packages.  They should have just kept with Systainer2 for their stuff, or did a systainer 2.5 if they wanted to add some features of the new design, but not mess with heights, side labels, etc.   Then offer a -V (van) option where those who want a van setup can get the tool with a systainer 3 instead.  The Bott stuff doesn't even exist in N.A. far as I know, so there is a big chunk of the market they don't have to do anything.

Just so many ways they could have handled this differently.  Of course now it's too late, even if they catch on to the mistake, it's unlikely they will go the other way and offer help to those who are stuck with some systainer 3s.

It's like taking away metric tools in N.A.   they could have added inch tools along side the metric stuff and let folks make the choice, instead they just took metric away. A completely un-needed self inflicted wound.

It is never "late" in business. Not until your are out of business.

What Festool needs to do now is keep both T-Loc and SYS-3 around as they fill different needs and neither can supersede the other functionally.

Well... the new messy Systainers make one thing easier; buying a new cordless drill. If I buy a Festool it's gonna be the oddball Sys3... if I buy a Makita I get a Sys Classic-clone, which fits in just fine. If I buy a Bosch, I get another L-boxx, that can stack with the L-boxx of my hammer drill. I could always justify the price premium of Festool because it always fitted into a system. But they now nixed the storage aspect of it..

Re: SYSTAINER³ available from September – new ToolBox from January
« Reply #190 on: November 05, 2020, 05:01 PM »
Festool announced a new member of the SYSTAINER³ family: a toolbox. According to them it will be available from January in Europe.

The Systainer³ ToolBox comes in tow hights (137 & 237 mm) and is available in both M and L widths. The top handle is foldable for stacking. The M versions can be connected on top of a Classic Systainer. T-Loc Systainers And the newest generation SYSTAINER³ (including the new ToolBox) are pispele to lock under and on top of the ToolBox. The Box has a not divided space for storing what ever you like. They need a bar on the back wehr the feet of the T-Loc systainer step in. This frame has holes in it wich can holt tolls like a screw driver. Maybe for symmetric they have this bar tough to the front. As all SYSTAINER³ family members the ToolBox has a front handle. For carrying it makes no sense because everything would fall out. As on the higher systainers the only benefit is to pull it out a shelve.

https://www.festool.de/produkte/neuheiten/neuheiten/204865---sys3-tb-m-137

I Personal prefer the already available toolbox with the tow storage spaces and the classic latches. But I am although not happy with the hole SYSTAINER³ lineup. the only outstanding product is the XXL version. and this would have bean tough possible with the T-Loc.

Sort of wondering why there is a front handle under the T-loc for those.  Unless you have another systainer stacked on top, anytime you use that front handle, all your stuffs would fall out. [big grin]

It's for pulling it from a rack.

Anyone know if racks for Systainer3 will ever be available for purchase not in a custom car, and if they'll ever be available to folks in USA?

I don't have a van, but I need to compactly store my tools in my little workshop. I'd prefer using the Bott style rack in my shop instead of drawers. For my use it seems better and allows for "grab & go" as needed to pull boxes to take to the worksite.

I just ordered a 5-pack of Tanos drawers for a few reasons, but going forward I'd prefer moving to the Systainer3 boxes and Vario3 racks.

Yes the new rails are currently available for custom shop cabinets. Here is a 4 pack set from ToolNut:

Those are a heck of a lot more affordable than the SYS-AZ drawers. I'm already invested in Tloc and SYS-AZ. One of the features I love of SYS-AZ is that I can pull the systainer out, get out the tool or accessories, then close it and slide it back in without removing the systainer. From watching the video that doesn't appear to be the case with the new rails?

Correct, you would need to remove the Systainer entirely to access the contents. The rails aren't long enough to engage and support the Systainer.

Thanks Shane. It's good to have choices. Hopefully Tloc and SYS-AZ don't go anywhere. The OCD part of me would not like mixing systems.

Even Classic Systainer can still be bought. Maybe easier in the EU than in the USA, but still.

Certainly not a fan of those rails...they come up short in my opinion.

I did however find a handy matrix depicting Systainer³ heights, sizes & availability.

2021 is turning out to be the start of Systainer-gate. I think the systainers should work out fine? Festool felt that the racking was more important and I was never a huge fan of a shelf slider system to store the systainers.

They could have added the that racking feature without messing with the heights.

Thanks for that link! I see they're not shipping until Feb 1, but that's soon enough for me, since I don't yet have any Systainer3 but plan to order some of those too asap, especially for random non-Festools, replacing their annoying "FREE zippered bag".

Now?  There are still a number of tools that haven't switched over to the Sys3 (at least in the US). It's sort of case-by-case at the moment. Over here, Festool's website lists which Systainer the tool comes in.

Eventually? You would have to assume that's the plan, but parts of the vac-sys still come in the classic Systainer, so it's possible (if unlikely) that some tools never make it out of the T-Loc.
