Tool Storage Layout Software
« on: January 17, 2023, 02:16 PM »
Hi -

My Googling skills have failed me...

Say I want to play with the tool layout on a sheet of pegboard or plywood.  Is there a program which has a library of tool image which may inserted on an on screen image of said plywood or pegboard.  This would allow for one to play around with the positioning of tools  before actually making the installation.

TIA

Ross

The most extensive tool-silhouette library I know is from toolbed.com, a German manufacturer of shadow board/foam inlays and other products for toolboxes/ workshops. No pictures of the tools though. The silhouettes are true in size, most feature additional room to accommodate fingers when grabbing the tool. You can take a look here: https://www.toolbed.com/en

Edit: Facom has almost 3200 3D-Models/Pictures of their tools available on traceparts: https://www.traceparts.com/en/search/traceparts-classification-manufacturing-engineering-machines-tools-mechanical-tools?CatalogPath=TRACEPARTS%3ATP02006003&KeepFilters=true&Keywords=&F%5B0%5D.Y=Content&F%5B0%5D.I=Content&F%5B0%5D.V=0&F%5B0%5D.L=&F%5B1%5D.Y=DataProvider&F%5B1%5D.I=Supplier&F%5B1%5D.V=0&F%5B1%5D.L=&F%5B1%5D.T=FACOM&F%5B2%5D.Y=DataProvider&F%5B2%5D.I=Standard&F%5B2%5D.V=0&F%5B2%5D.L=&F%5B3%5D.Y=StandardNumber&F%5B3%5D.I=StandardNumber&F%5B3%5D.V=0&F%5B3%5D.L=

So if it's just for general layout, that might do the trick.

Kind regards,
Oliver

When I was wanting to make some CNCed shadow boards for my tools, I layed them all out on the floor, took a picture and imported it into Fusion.  Tracing the outline was easy and then I could move them all around however I liked until I was happy with the arrangement.

Too Kaiser offers a free image scanning utility that converts tool photos into outlines for use in CAD.

I fiddled with it a while back and seemed to work.
