Valchromat in the States
« on: January 31, 2023, 11:39 AM »
Every time I watch a British YouTube video I get jealous of Valchromat. I know it is imported here, but it's very difficult to source in full sheets in small quantities.

Same. I'd like to use it for some cabinets. It's cute as an MFT top. Who has the connection for product in the Southeast?

@jeffinsgf These folks appear to be a distributor but also have a retail online operation as well. They are in California so shipping may be pricey.

These folks appear to be a direct importer out of Brooklyn

Chris Leffel at Trinity Innovations is very helpful. He has shipped ( slightly larger than ) MFT sized pieces of Valchromat via FedEx.

The size and weight limits imposed by FedEx are the limitations for this option.

Full sheets are shipped freight - and weigh about 100 pounds each. He was willing to mix different colors and sizes too.

He also sells another product that he claims is better, but I don't have any experience with that.

I felt the same way about WP's new microdot worktop..... Can you just sell me the plywood?  I can drill my own holes.

Pretty sure that microdot laminate is just a Formica product you can locate.

It certainly is. The 25mm BB is a little harder to source, though, and having the laminate applied with computer-controlled glue application and full sheet presses is pretty nice, too.

We would love to be able to sell the material alone, but the shipping makes it pretty undoable. Truck freight is about the only option for even half-sheets and the LTL carriers require very, very careful packaging or they'll destroy it.

Interesting, Interlam also offers a product similar to the “Air slate” by Porcelanosa product that was discussed earlier in the week. They call it Micro Thin Slate on a fiberglass substrate.

How does shipping the laminated 25mm BB compare to shipping these Teak Butcher Block Panels?

Roughly the same, in the same size...but a quarter sheet is about the most you can ship by UPS.
