Has anyone used their TS55 to cut Wedi Board?
« on: August 29, 2012, 12:16 AM »
Starting on my bath remodel and need to cut some Wedi. Read the tech sheets and they say any carbide blade will cut Wedi but I also know its got some cement on its face. Better to cut with a knife and straightedge or get a cheap cordless DeWalt like they show in all their demos? Rather just use what I have but don't want to toast the tool as well. Thanks.

Blades can always be sharpened...:)
n = number of Festools I've got.  (n + 1) = Festools I want

Cutting anything cementitious is probably not a great idea because the fine dust may muck up the saw despite the dust collection.  Now if it's just a few cuts and you really want to, the only thing you will do is potentially dull your blade, but keep in mind that should the saw need repair during its warranty period Festool may not be thrilled about your using it to cut cementitious material.

In Europe I believe cutting cement board with a TS is approved, not sure why it's different in US.
Current systainer to productivity ratio:  very high

Yes I have several times. It kills the blade pretty quickly. I also use my older festool track saw for cutting plasterboard/sheetrock. The dust can clog the bag on the vac fairly quickly, but I haven't noticed any adverse effects on the saw. The saw is probably 10 years old. The base plate of my TS 55 is now worn out, but the steel plate on the older saw is still fine.

Ridgid makes a fiber cement saw.  I have one and it works quite well to cut cementios boards and control the dust.

For the cost of a couple Festool blades, you can have the Ridgid.

Talk about overkill  ;) Cutting Wedi with a Festool TS55 both made in Germany, but dang it was easy! Decided to waste an older blade that needs sharpening so it will now just cut Wedi but Festool just delivers again for accuracy... dead on accuracy!

For the accuracy it was well worth sacrificing this one blade to Wedi Board!

Festool has special saw for such material. It's building materials saw AXT 50 LA (NAINA). I've seen it in Europe. Works like a charm.

This is one of the tasks I had in mind when I bought my Protool dsc agp-125.
Dust colletion works neraly as good compared to ts55, and plenty of precision as it uses the same track system. I have dedicated one 800 and a 1400 track to be used solely for diamond cutting. [cool]

I don't know how many you have to cut, I did one bathroom (7 panels) width a stanley knife and 2 cutters. Worked well. The cement layer is very hard for the knife / blade. Didn't want to ruin a festool saw for this purpose.
