My local source for ebony has dried up. I am looking for the jet black stuff in pieces about 4 ‘ long, 6” wide and 1” thick.  All I can find has the brown mixed in with the black.

Call Clark’s Hardwood Lumber in Houston. They sell African and Macassar. Not certain about the all black at any given time but they sell a lot of specialty exotics and they are I have always found them good to deal with. Their website says that they will ship. 713-862-6628

I was at the local Woodcraft store yesterday and they had quite a bit of Gaboon ebony...it was all jet black. The sizes were rather small though, 1"x1", 1 1/2" x 1 1/2" and 2" x 2".

People all around the world like ebony, but nature can't keep up with the demand. So keep using it, who needs trees anyway.

I agree...trees are pretty highly overrated. 

I suggest not buying endangered species as a matter of principle. There are alternatives.

Bunch of snowflakes. Next you'll be saying I shouldn't using baby seals as a mallet.

I used ebony years ago and then had the project split apart.  Not my joints - the wood.  Never again for me.  Good luck in your search.
