dominos and clap carrier
« on: April 12, 2023, 02:48 PM »
Does anyone had advice or experience with using a clamp carrier with domino glue ups?I  am gluing up 15 1.5" maple strips to create counters. There has to be a better way than applying glue to each side with dominos then flip up on end and repeating the process.

I am only familiar with the process using biscuits, but perhaps that will help.

Mark and cut for all the fasteners for all the strips of wood.

Lay the all the strips so that the domino holes are facing up.

Apply the glue for all the strips.

Insert the dominoes.

Flip the strips so that the dominoes are facing their mating holes.

Clamp.

Note, the dominoes are only needed for registration.  The glue area will be have more than enough holding power without the dominoes.  So only use enough dominoes to achieve accurate registration (alignment on the surface).

Clamp.

Wait until the glue squeeze out is starting to congeal.  Scrape off the excess glue.

As I mentioned, I’ve only seen this done with biscuits.  Other members should chime in if there is any deviation required for the dominoes.

You will have to make sure that you flip all the strips in the same direction or you will have domino holes that do not align.

I don’t know how long your dominoes are, but if they are 3/4” or longer, you will have to stagger the location or you will cut through and the dominoes will not allow the boards to meet.
