Will Drilling Holes in a Kapex Void the Warranty?
« on: May 07, 2011, 11:49 AM »
Fastcap has a new fence/stand that looks interesting, but the fence brackets are mounted by drilling a few self-tapping screws into the sides of the saw. Would doing that void the warranty in any way?  I doubt it would harm the saw in any way, but it's worth asking.

Have you looked at the accessory mount by Fastcap.  http://www.fastcap.com/estore/pc/Mounting-Bracket-for-Tile-Saw-p294.htm it looks like if you're using the new stand or the MFT Kapex or a home made stand you could make it work and not have to drill the Kapex.

Cheers,
Steve

What Bob is talking about is a fence system from Fastcap comming out pretty soon. You need to mount 2 brackets to the saw by using a couple screws on each side of the saw. Then you can mount the fence to the brackets.

I don't understand!?! I keep cutting it,and it's still too short!

My bad.  Sorry read it to fast. At half the cost of the UG cart I can see that it is appealing. Also same wight. Only downside it is two things to carry/trips.

Cheers,

You could do something like I did so I could use my Kapex with a Sawhelper Fence.

That's a good idea!   Because i didn't know what to do when i need to use my crown stop.

Yeah, I could, but in this case there's an easier solution that doesn't require me to fabricate anything- all I need to domis run four screws into the side of the saw. I already fabricated adapters for my current setup- this time I'd li,e to just use a system as it is, provided it's not going to cause warranty issues down the road.

Bob,I'd prefer to quote the warranty rather than answer your specific question.

Quote
Excluded from the coverage under this warranty are: normal wear and tear, damages caused by misuse, abuse, or neglect; damage caused by anything other than defects in material and workmanship.

The complete warranty text can be found on our website at http://www.festoolusa.com/support/warranty.html.

If you feel like your modifications will not fall under those exclusions, then you should be fine.

Basically, if the modification causes a problem with the saw, it will void the warranty based on my interpretation.

Makes sense. If a crack opened up in the base, emanating from the hole I drill, I'd expect Festool not to cover that.  If the saw motor stopped working, I'd expect that to still be covered under warranty, since the modification wouldn't cause that issue.

Thanks, Shane.
