TS55 REBQ riving knife
« on: January 11, 2020, 12:29 PM »
Hi, I have just bought a new TS55 REBQ saw, there appears to be a 2-3 mm side to side play in the riving knife, is this normal?

Thank you
Andrew.

Svar, thank you for your quick reply. Do you know the reason for this? I would have thought there would be little or no side to side play as the riving knife follows the saw blad.

Hi,

Just to confirm , yes it is normal. I am guessing that it needs a little play to function without binding and so that it will slip into a kerf easily on a plunge cut.

[huh]Even the riving knife on my SawStop PCS has a little play (flex) (and that's why I aligned the knife with the edge on the right side of the sawblade and not on the left as the installation manual has it).

It consists of several moving parts and it's spring loaded. It pivots around spindel, similar to blade guard on a regular circular saw. One table saw the knife is bolted to the motor assembly.
