long life filter bag question
« on: March 02, 2014, 11:42 AM »
I currently own a CT midi and use a dust deputy separator along with it. Works great, but I am expanding and need to purchase tools for employees.   I was curious about the long life filter bag. How well does it do against MDF dust from the kapex and sanders? Will the walls of the bag clog like the standard filters?  Oh and I am aware that the midi doesn't have a long life bag.  Will be purchasing a larger CT.

The long-life bags and the disposable filter bags (both paper and fleece) are all 5 micron filters. I've not had any of them clog on me but the paper bags are reputed to get caked from gypsum dust. I'm not even convinced that really is an issue but maybe...

@ Tom:

When I wrote clogged I didn't mean to the point that the vacuum no longer works.  I meant that the suction on the vac decreases noticeably long before the bag gets full. MDF dust does it on the disposables.  Happened all the time before I got the separator.  I guess if the long life bag is the same material as the disposable, the same thing will happen.

Mark,

Welcome to the forum.

The long life bag is designed to be used in instances where larger chips are produced, such as routers and planers. I don't think you'd be well served by it, especially when cutting MDF.

Hello folks, bought a used ct22 nine years ago. It came with a used longlife bag. I use it almost every day in my cabinet shop, routing and sanding and sometimes with the kapex on site. Still works great. Tried disposable paper bags with the kapex and really noticed no difference, so I use the longlife bag for everything even routing mdf. Darkstar

I have been really happy with my Long-life bag (which I got from Tom a few years ago -- thanks, Tom).  It works really well and never have had an issue.  I also like the fleece bags on the new vacs a lot too and have no plans to change to the long-life on this vac.
