Tool Registration Data
« on: September 02, 2021, 04:53 AM »
With a recent tool purchase/registration via the new Tool Registration system noticed my previous tool data is not listed. No migration of tool registration data to new tool registration system? If not, would an export of my data be available to me? Also, didn't notice an option for tool owner to export tool registration data, hmmm.

Did you ever get a resolution to this?  I had not been on the site in a few years, got 2 new tools, went to register them and my account was gone.  Signed up for a new account using the same email hoping it would bring everything back but it didn't.  Based on the customer number in the email from registering the new tools and the one I found in an old repair order it is clear I now have a completely new account.  I have three tools that I want to send in for repairs and am not sure how I would backtrack all the information needed to register them now.

No, I never did get a solid answer about the tool registration database from Festool. Somewhat disappointing that my previous tool purchase registrations were not available. It had been awhile since I purchased/registered a tool using the online system.

I remember a few years back when this registration system was unavailable and in the process of being rebuilt. I too recently logged in to find no tool data from recent purchases. I did register my recent purchase but, Looks to me that all previous data is gone. Thanks Festool!

If data migration was not done you would think an archive of data would be available and a owner could simply request their data. If a developer forgets the user then the system is useless. Who builds a new system without migrating past data? At least provide a resource for an owner to retrieve archived tool data.

I was hoping to at least export/import my Festool Tool registration data into my local Access database. Guess I'm looking at inventory day to record my Festool tool info. Most of my tools are past the warranty period but, still need to be maintained.

I have not entered any previous tool purchases into the new Festool online registration system.

It would certainly appear to be an odd, perhaps lazy or selfish, choice for them to not bring over the old data.  I don't think the new registration process was all that different from the old and I don't see a good reason for deleting all the old records.  They have yet to respond to my email which is irritating as it has been more than a day and I want to get the repair order in now while I have the perfect sized box to ship everything in.  If I don't hear back by the end of the day today then I think I will try to re-register the old tools that I want repaired.

then I think I will try to re-register the old tools that I want repaired.

If I recall a proof of purchase is required to complete a tool registration on the current system. That would be a dig into 2016-17 records for me. Easier for me to just visit each tool and pull data from the tool. My focus now is simply management of tools for reporting ownership and maintenance records.

Would appreciate you update this post if/when you hear back from Festool, curious.

You are correct, guess I won't be re-registering them but it looks like you can put in a repair order without registering the tool.   They want a purchase date to determine who pays the shipping but I am just going to use 1/1/1900 as I know they are out of warranty.

I also now see that you have to register within 30 days of purchase so don't even bother looking for the old records.

Almost two weeks now and no response from Festool.  I was able to send in the three tools I need repairs on by requesting service using the tool and serial numbers with setting the purchase date to 1/1/1900.  Not really a big deal to look at the tool to get those but it would be easier if they had not deleted them from the database and it would be extremely irritating if any of them was under warranty and having to figure out how to prove that if you assumed they already had them in their system.

Only a percentage of user/tool data could be migrated due to updated GDPR regulations. If you experience issues with registering a tool new or old, the Customer Service team can help in most cases. 888-337-8600

I sent a message through the website 12 days ago and have yet to receive a response.  I don't really care any longer if all my prior tools are in the website because they are all out of warranty, I don't want to collect serials from a dozen or so tools, and I figured out how to send in a repair request for the three tools that are broken but it would be nice if my email had been replied to within a reasonable amount of time.

I cringe at the use of acronyms in print without first spelling out the phrase/meaning. Not that it helps in this situation but, what is GDPR?

Example: Today we are reading the comments in the Tool Registration Data (TRD) post. Now if we just use TRD naked you have to guess what we mean and I hate guessing  [big grin]

GDPR is a European privacy law. It stands for General Data Protection Law.

California's recent privacy law closely mirrors it, from my understanding.

It's a "right to forget" law as much as it's also a "right to access my own data" law.

Think HIPAA or FERPA but for internet data.

Good news: The tool repair service is still functional and within a couple days of Festool's receipt of the tools I received quotes for repairing the three tools I sent in.  I assume I will receive the repaired tools back within a reasonable amount of time as was my prior experience.

Bad news: I have still not received a response to the email I sent in through their website more than two weeks ago about my prior account being deleted and the tools I own and registered no longer being on the website.
