How about a video?

You can find accessories for your tools on the Festool UK website, but here's a link to our website. Use the links on the left sidebar to filter by product category.

Hi

That's great, thanks

Nice to see a clear plan of action

Simply too many videos out there,

Also struggled to see a guide as to which backing pad goes with which polisher etc

Thanks

Hi Adrian,

I've used the Rotex extensively for bringing timber from rough sawn to mirror finish. I find that the best abrasives to use are the Granat series and the medium sanding plate which comes as standard with the machine is the best for 95% of the work you'll do. '
The trick is to use the rotex and random orbital modes in tandem, for example 60 g rotex mode then click it over to random orbit mode and go over the same area before going up to 80g and changing back to rotex mode.  As you get finer in abrasive, make sure you lower the speed as well.
Rather than try to detail the whole process here this link,(http://tutorwood.com/2011/08/27/how-to-get-the-most-from-your-rotex-part-1/)  will take you to my website where the whole process is written for you.
Let me know if you need any more help
Cheers,

Bryan

Hi Adrian,

I'm glad you found the information on the website useful. If you want to get a high gloss wax finish you need to source a wax that is a combination of beeswax and canuba wax in a gum turps base. There is an article on my tutorwood site called "applying a hard wax finish" which details the process using a locally made product "Gilly Stephensons  Cabinet Makers Wax". The key to the process is preparation of the project. I always begin by sanding to at least 1200g and then beginning to apply thin coats of wax from there.

Hope this helps, please ask if you need more information.

Cheers
Bryan

For future posterity, the link to buy Gilly Stephensons Cabinet Makers Wax online is:

http://www.gillystephenson.com/inc/sdetail/169/288

Their shipping seems very reasonable even though it's international - less than $12 to ship a small can of the Cabinet Makers Wax.
