Pro5 LTD Warranty
« on: November 30, 2016, 02:09 PM »
I want to register my Pro5 sander and just wanted to ask for some clarification on when the warranty becomes effective / what date I should submit. Is it the date I placed an order (Oct. 4), the date it was shipped (Nov. 1), or the date it was delivered (Nov. 8 )? I would assume that it shouldn't be the purchase date since the tool was not even released until Nov. 1, but I just wanted to make sure.

I normally register with the date I received the tool.

Always the day it arrives to you normally it s just a few days so no big deal, but save receipt and shipping just in case it ever comes down to it.

Imagine the guys that ordered a pro5  through paypal, they would be  6 months into their warranty by the time they received the sander if it went by payment date!
The one who says it can't be done should avoid interrupting the person doing it.

Either is fine. Technically, the warranty starts on the purchase date, but I can't imagine that we'd be super legalistic about it with an online purchase like this -- especially given the delays with the PRO 5. If I were you, I'd register it with the delivery date.

This is the actual Festool Warranty:

Quote
Festool will provide a prepaid return shipping label for the warranty period of the tool using UPS Ground Service, see warranty for details. Warranty is valid three years from the date of purchase on your receipt or invoice. Festool will not reimburse shipping cost for any reason, a prepaid shipping label must be issued by Festool to obtain free shipping. No collect shipments will be accepted. No Festool hats, shirts or other wearables may be returned.

I have looked into this before on another issue and at the time, the general consensus was date of purchase is when money changes hands.  Prior to that it was considered an 'order'

For warranty purposes, generally the date of purchase is the moment when you get the machine in hand and are able to use it.

I thought this was a U.S. based forum (maybe I am wrong?)  But if if you live in another Country (outside of the US) your warranty terms are going to be  different than ours

I found this in a quick search:
"In Europe, a manufacturer's warranty is required by law to last a minimum of two years, not just one as in the United States. And a European warranty begins when a product is received, not purchased."

Doesn't registration require the S/N?
Might be a little tough to do without the tool in hand unless the tool is automatically registered at time of shipping.
Any tracking number involved can also verify the purchase date and actual time of delivery.
Credit card records and/or check posting dates can be a backup reference as well.

Thank you Tyler and everyone else for your responses. I realize that we are talking about a relatively short period of time. I was just curious what the proper way of registering the tool was.

I hear what your saying, but I will never forget that Festool denied that warranty claim for the guy with a destroyed jigsaw BECAUSE HE WAS NOT USING A FESTOOL BLADE!  (if that isn't "super legalistic" what is?)

That's what you heard - third hand at best.

That's not verification it even happened.

And who's to say that the tool wasn't abused ?  It's just a lot less confrontational to deny coverage based on the blade rather then engage in the losing proposition of "we're denying coverage because you clearly beat the junk out of it and left it out in the rain"
