Hi -

I broke then Plug-it end of my 10 meter cord.  All that needs to be replaced is the black section of the Plug-it which does the physical connection to the tool.

So, I disassembled one of my spare Plug-it cables and found that there appear to be two different types of Plug-its.  Seems the 16 gauge Plug-it has a spring and  the concurrent connection piece is different.



Leads to couple of questions..
1.  is a replacement end available?
2.  what is the reasoning behind the spring?

I believe they are molded ends and therefore non replaceable...btw, I switched many of my tools to short Plug it connectors and absolutely hated all the unplugging/plugging. I reinstalled original cords and installed a plug strip that is attached to a plywood platform that sits on top of my systainers ( one stack is sitting on Midi..one stack and platform on CT26....love it

The black portion that does the twisting will come off with a bit of prying and or force. Seems to pop back on just fine.

Hey Peter and thread! I’m just the IT guy and don’t have the right experience with the tools to answer these types of questions….  HOWEVER, I can send this to some people internally and help get an answer. My guess is that it might be Tuesday since we’re on a holiday weekend.  I’ll check back in Tuesday (or check if someone internally has answered).

FestoolUSA does not actively monitor these boards for messages.  My guess is that when they performed the UL listing/rating, it specifically did not include repair or replacement of the plug-it end, therefore any such repair would void the listing/rating on the plug and would not be officially supported nor condoned by FestoolUSA.

If replacement plugs were available, they would be on eBay, Amazon, and at retailers.  On the Festool Spare Parts site, Plug-It cords for all exploded diagrams are specifically listed as "Accessory item - can only be ordered from retailers"; there isn't even a part number listed, nor a wire gauge on any given tool.

Which means a replacement is not available.

As to the other question, the spring may exist to help with positive contact of the cord interface.  It may be a newer revision on all cords or it may be just for the 16 gauge high-draw cords, but you would have to disassemble more than just two to find out.

It's a shame to toss a cord that otherwise works, but I'm sure people have cobbled together fixes themselves in the past.

For the record, bout 10 yrs ago, there were PlugIt replaceable ends available under the Protool brand of TTS.

When Protool was discontinued, these were not "migrated" to Festool. Presumably for safety reasons - Festool is a German company and all that. Seen some of those last year when a local guy was selling off some old stock for the original price of $25 a piece.

Too many people expected immediate responses and entering into extended postings that needed a phone call. That is not to mention the complaints that no one wants to be subjected to when they are just the worker reading and responding to the posts. An example of the former is discussion of things Festool does not sanction: importing of CMS components not sold in the US, usage of the Dust Deputy, use of the OF2200 in the CMS router module, plug-it conversions, other modifications, complaints "x" tool is not sold in the US, etc). I knew when I started reading FOG the employee(s) would be run off.
