Kapex KS 60 With shop dust extraction
« on: August 12, 2020, 05:14 PM »
Hi,

I am setting up my home workshop and I have purchased a Kapex ks60. I have a Festool CT26 and I have read that to get the best dust collection performance on the Kapex that you need to use a 36mm hose.

I would like to use that extractor with other tools and moving the hose from one part of the workshop to another will be a hassle. Will the Kapex perform well with a 2hp shop dust extractor or is that the wrong type of dust extraction for the saw?

Thanks

Ideally, you need a dedicated "shop vac" rather than a larger dust collector.  It doesn't have to be a Festool CT.  Other brands will work just fine.  You don't want to run the Kapex through the automated switch on the CT anyway.  A short 5-6 foot hose will help with collection.  A 1.5" aftermarket hose is roughly the same as a 36mm.

I have a CT22 that I use with a short length of 36mm hose on my Kapex, it works well.  I also use the CT22 for other Festool tools with a 36mm and 27mm hose depending on the tool.   This is fine for these tools.  I think your CT26 with a 36mm hose should be fine for your Kapex.

I have a larger dust collector (Mini Gorilla) that I use with a J/P, table saw, router table, and drill press.   These need more air flow than you can get with a CT style dust collector.  The CT styles have higher pressure, but not as much volume of air movement.

Hope this helps.

Bob

Hi all,
I am a hobby woodworker and have learned so much from your posts and the links provided. Thank you all.
My question: A previous post mentioned to not plug the Kapex into a CT. I have always done that. Why is it not a good idea?

Depending on the DC you’re using, not all shop vacs can handle high amp draws as a miter saw typically does. Festool’s dust collectors are among those who handles high amps. Just check the wattage on the miter saw and then check allowed draw from the dust collectors outlet. Be sure the outlet handles more than the miter saw is drawing. The surge at start can be quite high. With Festool products in both ends you should usually be ok.

Thanks for the Kapex using CT auto plug clarification.

I really want to avoid buying another ct if possible. Is the issue with the dust collector that it is low pressure high volume?
