Is the tool end of the D36 Hose user-replaceable?
« on: January 27, 2017, 06:56 PM »
Don't ask how it got mangled (it's just too embarrasing).

I'm referring to the plastic part directly attached to the hose itself at the end that connects (through the reducing sleeve) to the attachments.

Can I remove that part from the hose and replace it myself? Without too much contortion and special tools? If so, what's the part number to order and what exactly is involved?

If not, is it something that can be repaired by Festool at less than the cost of a new hose (my option of last resort).

The ends of hoses are replaceable.  Easy to do.  I would get the part number for you but I am on my phone and searching is not pleasurable on a small screen.

I am sure another Fogger will jump in shortly.

Good afternoon Mark,

The part you need is found on p15 of the 2016 Festool USA Catalog; p/n:452 894; description: Hose Sleeve, Rotating Connector for the extractor end of the hose; price: $27.00.  All this is assuming: 1) you have a CT26E, CT36E, CT48E or CT36AC; 2) you want an anti-static connector; 3) you are in the USA.

Replacing the piece is a snap (literally).  452 894 actually has 2 pieces, maybe 3 - it's been a while since I did this.  Sounds like the piece you destroyed is the outermost sleeve.  At the base of that sleeve are 2 tabs, diametrically opposed to each other; with a small blade screw driver or other similar tool, release the sleeve from the connector.  If this is all that's damaged, replace with the sleeve from 452 894.  Erock, now Poplar Shop, has a YouTube video showing how to do this.

Now for the end you really wanted, see my next post.

Best wishes,

DrD

Oops, read the end wrong.  So here goes for the other side. p/n 487 721; price: $25.00.  Everything else stays the same.

Sorry

Thanks for chiming in here DrD.

Actually the part I destroyed is the innermost sleeve - the one that is attached directly to the hose. I looked at erock's video (if you mean the one about connecting two hoses together). He pops off one part and says that the other part remains on the hose. It's that second part that I need to replace (again, please don't ask how it got destroyed!).

As for the other questions I am in the USA, its a non-anti-static hose, and I have a CT22 (but it's the other end that needs repair).
The hose would be about 2004-2005 vintage (in case they have changed over time).

What I need will be a repair part. The ones you are specifying are removable parts that can wear out and need to be replaced, hence they are in the catalog. I think I need to wait for a Festool person with access to the extended spare parts catalog to see this and respond (hence I posted in this sub-forum).

Thanks again.

I believe the hose connectors come in three pieces.  Most of the videos leave the inner sleeve and lock ring as a matter of convenience.

Get a sharp razor blade and cut the current hose one or two ribs away from the existing connector.  This will give you a relatively clean and round section to attach the new connector.

Good hint RustE. Once I get the part, that is what I will do.

Hi,

That inner sleeve that is attached to the hose is threaded on to the hose.  I looked on the parts catalog but couldn't find that part.  A call to Festool should get you the right one though.
