Is Recon warranty transferable?
« on: March 12, 2021, 10:30 AM »
Long story short, I'm a moron and missed/ignored the "All Sales are Final" part of the Recon website.  So I might have a tool or two that I want to put up for sale even though I've had them for only 2 weeks (wanted to compare corded and cordless to each other and my local dealer doesn't have either one in stock to even place my hands on them).

The Recon warranty doesn't require registration, per the website "In order to obtain a one-year warranty, no tool registration is required."

My guess is that this is because it's sold directly by Festool and they have the information on file about who purchased the tool and the serial number, tool number, etc.

Does the Recon warranty follow the tool, or only the owner?  If it's limited to the owner, I might not have any tools for sale, as I'd probably have to take a bath on the lack of warranty to sell it essentially still unused to someone else.

Any follow up on this topic?

I have not heard anything.  I didn't call FUSA to find out, which would probably be the fastest way.

Also, now that it's been in my possession over a month, I've somewhat resigned myself to being the new owner, even if I never use it.  I'll probably list it for sale in a few places soon, it would be nice if I could offer the new owner the remainder of the 10.5 months of warranty, but that's my own fault.

@Festool USA ? @DerickC ?

The warranty follows the tool. Registering the tool with documentation via festoolusa.com/myfestool makes this process easier as it establishes the purchase date, registration date and can even include documentation to support the purchase. If/when a tool is sold and is still under warranty, we can transfer that warranty to a new owner.

I did this with my recent Recon purchase through the tool registration portal. One wrinkle - the registration process requires you to enter the dealer that the tool was purchased from, but there is no option for "Festool USA", "Festool Recon", etc. I simply picked a dealer that I've ordered from in the past, and figured that the discrepancy would be straightforward to explain if I ever need warranty service.

Thank you so much for the information, Derick!  [big grin]
