I bought one and it still shows available. Maybe they are selling multiple ahead of discontinuing this model.

It's possible. The sander was active for almost 90 minutes. What was the timestamp on your order and what timezone are you in? I haven't found anything in the public-facing website data that indicates an available quantity.

I've been fairly disappointed in all three of my recent Recon purchases over the last 30 days.  First was the RAS with the melted Hook & Loop pad.  Next was the KAL II that came to me looking like it had been dropped out of the back of a moving pickup truck onto gravel and was completely missing the hook on the back plate.

Finally I realized that I would like to have the arm for the KAL II (magnet as well as clamp hole) and the arm itself is ludicrously priced, so when the Set with Adaptor Arm came up on Recon recently, I grabbed it.  It showed up in much better shape, almost brand new, but didn't come with the arm.

I would be interested to see the Recon QA/QC group get their own "Inside Festool" episode.

I would be interested to see the Recon QA/QC group get their own "Inside Festool" episode.

My first Recon purchase was a Carvex PS 420. I ordered it back in September. Other than having some scratches, the tool performs as expected. The blades I got with it were well worn with plenty of burn marks. It was also missing a splinterguard. Both are trivial things, but I feel even if you're buying a reconditioned tool, you should at least get new consumables.

A couple weeks ago, I got a CXS. It was in great shape, so no complaints. Assuming the screenshot below shows the manufacture date, the tool itself is almost 7 years old, which makes me wonder about the longevity of the batteries (they're also stamped 2015). Had the description said the tool was manufactured in 2015, I probably would've passed. But, my bad for thinking recon offerings were more current.

Festool Recon could learn a few things from Apple when it comes to selling reconditioned items. I've purchased several reconditioned laptops from Apple over the years and I've never questioned the quality of the hardware I'd be receiving. The packaging is on par with buying a new laptop and all the included accessories appear to be new and freshly wrapped.

I don't know if I'll be as ambitious about making a future recon purchase when another tool I'm interested in becomes available.

Hmmm, an idea I just had...I can update the Recon Tool Bot to search the Festool USA site with the Recon SKU. Then I can at least add a note indicating if the SKU being sold is current or old stock that is no longer available.

Anthony-that is a good idea to show if the SKU is a current model.  I made the mistake of buying a Midi on Recon (it popped up and I did not have time to research) only to find it was a non-Bluetooth model.  That was my fault, but your showing if the SKU number is current would help people like me.

Also sometimes this stuff is not "reconditioned" very well.  On the Midi, the rear wheels would not turn because the axles were caked with drywall dust that they tried to hose off, and it turned to a dried paste that locked the wheels up.  There were other issues with it, and I was therefore able to return it.

I have received other items that are almost like new.  Just the luck of the draw, but I would think they could do better in what they call "recondition".

Anyway, thanks to Anthony for the contributions he has made to FOG.

I have apparently made... um... a few more than that, searching my e-mail (I haven't taken the time to create an inventory spreadsheet).  [eek]

While not all of my purchases have required intervention, it's definitely been hit and miss.  That's also what boggles my mind: by having to go through and find a replacement part and spend the time and money to ship it out to me, they could have just done it right the first time.

But, my bad for thinking recon offerings were more current.

That's the weird thing with Festool Recon.  It could be a 30-day return that got used and abused, it could be a 30-day return that went untouched and unused, it could be an item shipped back for repair out of warranty that the owner decided wasn't worth the cost of repairing, or it could be an item that was shipped back for repair and never re-claimed by the owner.  I've gotten a few older items from Recon, for sure, and even one that still had the retailer's stickers all over the Systainer.  Yet my Vac-Sys was built in 2021 and looked almost brand new.

Funny you mention it, I'm typing this on a reconditioned M1 Macbook Pro.  My reconditioned iPad Pro was also indistinguishable from new.  And both are eligible for Apple's full warranty and extended warranty.  Only downside for Apple products is waiting for them to come into stock, but that's not unlike Festool Recon, I suppose.  The DJI Mini 2 drone that I bought reconditioned by DJI was also impossible to tell from new; even had all of the warning stickers placed back on it.  The reconditioned Samsung phone I bought from Verizon (apparently, although not obvious at the time) has 98% battery health and I could only tell it was pre-owned because it still has a screen protector on it (Apple provides complete new screens).

Festool Recon used to mean that it was actually reconditioned.  Lately I feel like it's not much different than an "Open Box" item from Amazon.  At least Amazon, Best Buy, and others that sell Open Box usually have a condition ranking along with the item.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not on a quest to burn down FUSA, but it's been a lot of ups and downs.

Order email confirmation came in at 11:27am Central. I bought it within a few minutes of it being posted to the Slack channel, and it was still showing available at least for several minutes.

Cordless Screw Gun DURADRIVE DWC 18-4500 Li 3,1-Compact just posted.

I was seriously considering this for a while during the time that it was first in line (it's been swapped with the Planex again).

I already have plenty of batteries and chargers, so I couldn't figure out why I would pay the Recon price for the Set when I could get a brand new Basic with a 3 year warranty for $50-60 less.

Sure, the 3.1 batteries are tempting with their compactness and lightness, but not with the loss of 2 years' warranty on what is surely already an older drill and battery combo (they stopped selling the Set in the US and only sell the Basic).

The drywall screw gun popped up on Recon last year at 50% off.  I ordered one because-well it was 50% off.  Mine came with two 5.2 Bluetooth batteries.  Last year was an expensive year for me due to Recon.

I'm testing indicators for Recon tools in the Slack channels. Thumbs up if it's a current tool/SKU on Festool USA. Thumbs down if it's an older SKU and not available. The tools currently on Recon are not active SKUs on Festool USA.

Tapping the links next to the thumbs will take you to the Festool USA search results page for that SKU. I haven't yet figure out why some SKUs specifically say a product is no longer available while others just show hits that were found, with no mention of the SKU. Maybe it's an indication of how old the SKU is.

Anyway, I'll push this update to the Slack channel in the next day or two.

I noticed nine items posted this morning, the first being CSX drill.  I could not find the Recon thread at that time so could not let the FOG world know.  I will remember now this is under "Ask Festool" tab.   For those waiting for the CSX, sorry. We are now down to six items.

I also noticed Recon is not the standard 25% off.  Looks like 20% now, with HKC at 15% and discontinued Planex at 50%.
On a different note, having never used one, could the Planex be used in a pinch to sand other items like a wood floor?  I understand it is not ideal, but I am asking for a friend.

Yeah, 15% on the HKC, 20% on the Kapex.
