It's been the same set of tools for the past week or so. Looks like no Vac Sys for the near future for me, so I decided I had enough situations in the past where I told myself: "I wish I had an LS130!", so I bought one 10 minutes ago. Checked the sale again just now, LS130 is still available. I think they have a lot of them in stock.

The timeframe was longer this evening, but there was also no morning sale today or afternoon sale yesterday so I wonder if they're making up for lost time.

I think Festool just likes to keeps up on our toes [tongue].

I'm not looking for anything on recon sale, but after reading recent posts surprised no one mentions customer service side of this.
It's outrageous. If occurred ones it could be a glitch, but these random on and off 15 min flash listings and cancellations of the mostly same inventory without any warning and explanation would get people fired from any normal retailer. It is no way to treat people. Festool should be ashamed of itself. It's as if they are driving customers crazy on purpose and having a laugh reading this thread.

I think they are opening it up until x number of tools are sold could be 5 could be 100 but once that number is reached the site shuts down. I bet this is for order processing and shipping constraints. Also, I feel that the time these sales come out so different people have access to what is available.

who knows

It is odd, but I guess there will always be enough demand to overlook these issues - especially considering the quality of their tools. BTW - the Recon Site FAQs includes the following:

How do I know when a certain tool will become available on festoolrecon.com?

Festool reserves the right to pick offers at random. It will not be transparent what tool will be for sale next. You will only learn of new offers through the official announcement sent out with the recon newsletter posting.  Once it expires, the next offer will become available.  [/i]

I assume that they are trying to prevent re-sellers from hoarding and selling at a mark-up (like ticket scalpers). It does suck to keep checking, but could be worth it if you have time and luck out and find the site active. I grabbed an OF 1010 last week and it was delivered today and it is in near new condition. No visible use and all parts look brand new. I spent a little time testing it out (a few dados) and it is NOICE! So much lighter and easier to handle than the 1400. I am really going to enjoy using it and I saved a few bucks.

The random times make sense if they are trying to mix it up so people who may not be able to get in a sales window at one time on one day have a chance on another.  Of course the problem is how do people get stuff done if they are trying to check the site all day long.  But of course that is then what helps some folks get a real chance at a tool.

I think a lot of folks would just say leave them all up, all the time and let the market do the rest.  But yeah, maybe you would get people trying to make a business out of buying them, and then selling them on craigslist and such.

I'm not sure there is a perfect way to do this.

How long after people made a purchase was it till you got a shipping notice email?

There is. List everything available. First come first served (it's not a charity). If sells quickly adjust the price next time. Done.

For the Recon OF 1010 I bought last week - I ordered 10 FEB, received a shipment email on 12 FEB, and received item today (17 FEB) here in San Diego. However, I bought another item on Saturday and I still have not received a shipping notice.

I'm inclined to agree with you on this, but since they don't do this, I am going to assume Festool has their reasons. I think way back at the beginning of recon, Festool talked about this in the announcement, like wanting to have it be fun, or give everyone a chance, etc.

Maybe they are trying to avoid angering dealers by giving people a cheaper option then the dealer price on new all the time.  The system gets rid of the 30 day trial items, which helps dealers, yet dealers don't feel they are always competing against recon for a sale. You don't want to create a world where people buy the item new, return it in 30 days, and then re-buy it the moment it comes back up on the recon site at a lower price.  By making it random/hassle/etc, you prevent that problem.

That's an awful lot of work to go through for a 20-25% discount and a 2-year reduction in warranty, on top of the risk of someone else buying it out from under you.  Even as a hobbyist, if I need a tool, I usually need it either now, yesterday, or maybe up to a week from now and can wait for shipping.

I mean, people sometimes do that with home electronics, but most retailers that offer open-box discounts usually limit it to 5-10% which barely, if even, covers the sales tax.

I have received my purchases yesterday. I have order a metric TSC55, T18+3-E and a Domino 500.

Domino is hard to tell apart from a brand new unit, no scratches at all. It looks to be the latest version with the updated dust port.

The T18 has a few minor scratches on the drill and batteries, clearly a returned unit.

My disappointment is with the TSC55. It's in great shape, but it came with the ancient 5.2 batteries and TCL3 chargers. The thing is that it was actually more expensive than the current model listed on the recon site with 5.2 BT batteries. I really don't care for metric or imperial, but that was the only one available when I had the chance to actually buy something. One would think that the older model would be cheaper than the newer, but I guess it's my fault for assuming that they will not send outdated batteries.

I was reading through another recon thread and saw that (dynaglide if I remember) had a pic showing 12 pages of Recon items for sale?? How do I access a list?? I’ve only ever been able to see 1 listing and 1 only? Recently I only see the wow that didn’t last long page.

I have found that https://www.festoolrecon.com/collections/all shows a similar list, but has the out-of-stock items greyed out.

As best I can tell, the items available when it goes live are the in-stock items that are not greyed out. What they have on hand can change, obviously, but you can at least get a sense of what they’ve got.

Can’t remember who first posted that link (thanks), but I had a couple items I was keeping an eye on, and they greyed out at the same time they stopped appearing for sale.

Well that's interesting, ALL of the LEX sanders are no longer available on the US website, from Festool:
"Air Sander LEX 3 150/3
Item number 691154
This item is no longer available."

Speaking of interesting...I wonder where all of those C/T 12 drills and C/T 15 drills are coming from?

The C/T 12 was last available in 2013.

The C/T 15 was last available in 2015.

I'm guessing you felt bad for the LEX 3 and you gave it a home.

I think one of the biggest questions is simply where do the tools that don't fall into the 30 day return tools come from.  Anything sold in the past year I get, between covid, and normal shipping, checks, etc t get it up.

There is no way they are just finding these randomly in corners.  I doubt they come from dealers who had them in the corners of their shops.  So do they build them up from corpses that come in?  Not sure how that works to tell someone it can't be repaired, but then merge dead ones into one? and sell it.  It's also a lot of work for a little gain. Maybe new repair staff trains on bringing the dead back to life.

Metric units haven't been sold since like 2017?

I think it's cool the stuff shows up.  Maybe some of them are from dealers who went out of business and had this stuff in their inventory.

Nope...but actually the LEX I was considering was the small LEX 3 77. Just a great little air sander but it needs 10 CFM @ 90 psi to run. Along with an 80 gallon tank.

My thought is these older tools come from service tools where the price quoted to repair is not worth it to the owner. I suppose a fair number of those get returned to the owner, but I would assume that some owners don’t want the “totaled” tool shipped back. Festool Service can repair these units at cost and sell as a Recon tool for a small profit. Just a guess.

Yeah, could be they are going back to normal mode now.  They cleared the warehouse out enough they can use the foosball table again.

All the tools that didn't find a home will be put down now.

That was me. Sorry that happened to you. I got lucky. The person who received it opened the box just enough to find my information and called me to pick it up. I only live 15min away.

Festool was going to send a replacement out however. But this shouldn't happen in the first place.

Upthread he mentioned a website service that monitors pages for changes. Problem is that you have to pay for rapid monitoring (or at least that's what it said to me).

Another option (if you run Linux), is to setup a shell script that performs a very crude check - something like this (offered without any support or comment):

Code: [Select]
# monitor-webpage.sh - Monitors a web page for changes
# sends an email notification if the page listed in the URL changes
# Run it in a shell script that you leave up (or you can setup a cron job)

USERNAME=""
PASSWORD=""
# Change this to whatever page you want
URL="https://www.festoolrecon.com/collections/black-friday/products/cordless-angle-grinder-agc-18-115-li-eb-basic"

for (( ; ; )); do
    echo `date`" Checking ${URL}"
    mv ${HOME}/tmp/new.html ${HOME}/tmp/old.html 2> /dev/null
    curl $URL -L --compressed -s > ${HOME}/tmp/new.html
    DIFF_OUTPUT="$(diff ${HOME}/tmp/new.html ${HOME}/tmp/old.html)"
    if [ "0" != "${#DIFF_OUTPUT}" ]; then
    echo `date` " Changed...send email"

It appears to be that way now. I did notice that all links from the collections will end up pointing at the main page now and whatever tool is active (if any).
