Thanks to the slack notification I was able to score the Kapex this morning.  I’m often still asleep when these deals go live, so that was a very nice score.

Nice score, indeed! I'm also usually sleeping so I know that feeling. Stoked to hear the notifications are useful  [big grin]

I had something similar yesterday. I grabbed an RO 150 yesterday. I got the slack notification at 12:24. My order confirmation is from 12:25 but it didnt come down from the recon site until 12:43. Thinking they must have had multiple available?

Order email confirmation came in at 11:27am Central. I bought it within a few minutes of it being posted to the Slack channel, and it was still showing available at least for several minutes.

I bought one and it still shows available. Maybe they are selling multiple ahead of discontinuing this model.

It's possible. The sander was active for almost 90 minutes. What was the timestamp on your order and what timezone are you in? I haven't found anything in the public-facing website data that indicates an available quantity.

Some stats from yesterday and today's Recon offerings. I'm kinda surprised to see the Carvex top the list but not surprised by the Planex. I'll be curious to see how long the Conturo sticks around this time.

And, fastest sellers to date*:

* 12/9/21 to now

I removed previous sales time from the Slack messages. It was based solely on SKU and more often than not, didn't have any data to display. I didn't think it was useful as-is. I'm working on a better idea that calculates sales frequency using a combination of SKU, product class (Domino, Kapex, etc.), and product type (Joiner, Saw, etc.). Based on the calc, I'll add text like one of the following to the message:

"Yawn. This tool is a Recon momentum killer. It's usually here for hours, if not days, at a time."
"Grab a cup of coffee, but enjoy it before it gets cold. This tool has been known to stick around for about an hour."
"Give it some thought, but not too much thought. This tool gets bagged in about 15 minutes."
"If you want it, get it. This tool usually sells in 5 minutes or less."
"It's go time! This tool is usually gone in 60 seconds (or less)"

The messaging is a bit more vague, but will hopefully convey a sense of urgency when appropriate.

Filtering out the duplicate signups, there are now about 80 people getting Slack notifications. Thanks for participating!

You have more than 80 followers, 4nthony.  My phone is a 3G so no slack for me, but I do follow you on FOG.  Looking at your times, I feel lucky to be able to have nabbed a 75 saw and 500 domino (among other things) on Recon last year.  Appreciate the info you provide us.

Discounts are now only 15-20%.  The Planex is 25% off, but a few days ago it was 50% discounted. I guess inflation comes from all angles.

I've posted my experience with certified refurbished Apple products before.  I think I only got a 5-10% discount, but everything comes factory-sealed, practically new, and I still have the option to purchase Apple's extended Applecare warranty if I want to.

If I knew that a 10-15% off Recon tool would come to me without a speck of dust and a 2 year warranty instead of a 1 year warranty, I might be willing to consider it.  My experience, however, tells me that I would be contacting Festool for missing parts as soon as it arrived, and probably have to clean out the Systainer, too.  To lose 2 years from the warranty on an obviously used and abused version of a tool and only get 10%?  Not nearly as likely.

I noticed the 50% off Planex (most recently posted on 2/1) was a different SKU from the Planex currently in the queue. Other than that, I don't know what the differences are. Maybe a much older manufacture date? Used an abused? Both SKUs are discontinued product.

FWIW…when Festool started this program 10? years ago, they would routinely offer the same SKU  numbers at varying price levels depending upon the condition. At that time you could purchase the item at whatever price point/condition level you were comfortable with.

I picked up the rotex 150 last week. It came brand new I even took off the pad and not a speck of dust on or in it. The ts 55 I picked up a month before was an old sku and the only thing that looked used on it was the plug it cord that came with it was wrapped weird. Other than that my experience so far has been pretty great.

I think that's a good system. It is also how KEH.com does it with used camera gear. The price is based on a clearly defined grading system. Tools aren't cameras, but some type of grading system would be nice.

Am familiar with KEH and have always been a fan of their rating system for used equipment.
