Function of black plastic hood at rear of the blade guard
« on: November 10, 2021, 04:09 PM »
On the saw I purchased used, the black hood that hangs down at the rear of the blade guard interferes with the blade.  I can see that the blade has chewed on it.  What is the function of this part?  Do I need it?

Hi,

If you are referring to the Kapex. It is the dust shroud. It directs dust into the dust port. It should only have a chance of interferring with the blade if cutting wide, thick stock or if the sliding fence is in too close to the blade. In those situations the rubber piece may get folded into the blade.

If it is hitting the blade all the time, make sure it is really seated into the proper position with the 'clip' holding it in place.

Seth - Thanks.  I think the rubber shroud may be missing.  The piece hanging there is hard black plastic.  Maybe I need to buy a part.
