Connecting 2 hoses together

Hello all.

New to this forum but long time festool user.

My beloved first gen CT Mini (purchased in 2014) was stolen off a jobsite a couple of weeks ago and I just replaced it with the latest CTL MIDI. Added a Bluetooth remote and I am in heaven.

I have an upcoming project where I will be sanding a ceiling and would rather not have to put the vac on a rolling scaffold. How would I go about connecting two hoses together and would this result in a loss of suction to the point where it’s not worth doing it?

The D27 tapered hose that comes with the new MIDIs has a little sub-port on the extractor end.  That fits a D36.  So I've got a MIDI->D36->D27

This article has a formula for calculating suction drop on longer hoses.  I did not read it carefully, but it seems to indicate a 7% drop in suction from doubling the hose length.

I've spent more hours than I care to remember sanding overhead timber in barns, orangeries and conservatories, using a Mirka Deros hooked up to a CTL26 on the ground = a 27mm hose off the sander plugged into a 36mm hose into the extractor. I'm sure there's some loss of suction, but it's sanding dust, not router chips. Real-world performance remains identical.

The only tip I'd add is to either loop the hose over your shoulder when you're uptop, or even better - ziptie the last couple of feet of hose to your belt. The combined weight of the sander and hoses being pulled downwards by gravity makes your arm and shoulder muscles unbelievably sore, unbelievably quickly.

Good point about tying the hose.  I'd also tape the two together as the weight of the D36 can pull itself out of the smaller dia hose.

As for Festool vac suction loss, I still have to open the valve on the tool end on the 3.5m 36 + 3.5m 27 for sanding.
