Can I purchase owners manuals?
« on: March 10, 2021, 09:04 AM »
I bought a number of Festool Recon items in the last few months, and some of the recon purchases were short the owner's manuals.  I notified Festool Recon asking if I could purchase these manuals but received no response.  Does anyone know how I could purchase these?  I know I can probably print them off, but I would like the booklet that fits in the systainer.  Thank you.

It seems strange to me that a manufacturer selling a tool, new or refurbished, would not include the manual. The manual is THE method of informing the user of safety precautions that should be adhered to when using the tool.

To me, a manufacturer selling a refurbished tool should not be relieved of this responsibility. It's not the same as an individual selling a used tool on eBay or elsewhere who states no manual is included.

I would hazard a guess that anyone buying a refurbished tool from the manufacturer would expect it to include the manual.

If you're still within the return window contact them about returning it and state why. Maybe they will make good. If not you'll have a glimpse of what to expect in the future for support.

Ask Festool again, try calling instead of email

You can also download a PDF of the manual from FestoolUSA. I keep mine on my phone.

There is a link underneath the forum header FESTOOL websites. Go to the USA site, navigate to the tool you have and there is usually a link to dl the manual.

I recently purchased a MIDI I from Festool Recon. After I got past the hole in the box and the broken vac, I noticed they also shipped it without a manual or a vacuum bag. [sad]

The replacement MIDI I arrived in perfect condition along with an owners manual and a vacuum bag...that's because the vacuum was new and never used.

Here's a link to the manuals section. Like Ron said, if you really want an original Festool hardcopy, call them up and ask them for one.

I'm not eligible to buy a recon machine, so I haven't read any recon sale. Do the sale pages lay out what's included in a sale such as manual, consumables, etc.? I won't hold a seller accountable for what has not been promised in the sale literature.

@ChuckM FestoolUSA and FestoolCA don't list a manual as being included on the websites as what in the box info but they always have been

I have gotten manuals with all my recon tools.  Based on my past experience with the recon sale, I am fairly certain that Festool will make this right with a quick phone call.

Please note my question was if I could purchase manuals.  I understand these items may not get returned by the original buyer when returned to Festool, I just wanted to know if I could purchase.   As suggested, I am going to give Festool a call today.

"Please note my question was if I could purchase manuals. "

Before I made my first post in this thread, I went to ekat and tried to find the hardcopy manual as a part, but the three tools I looked under there was no manual listed as a part. Which seems strange since just about any other brand tool if you go to their parts site the manual is listed and has a part number. It's not always available for purchase, but it's there.

The two recon items I've purchased have included manuals. I have not seen it spelled out, but the implication from Festool seems to be that the recon items come with everything a new tool with the same product number includes.

As suggested, I gave them a call and they are checking the warehouse to see if they have any in stock.  If not, I appreciate that Cheese gave me the link to print.  I may be able to figure out a sander, but I really need that Domino manual.

Thanks to everyone for your help.

The owners' manuals are available for free online.

If you need a hard copy, then get some paper, a 3 hole puncher and a suitable sized loose-leaf binder and print it out. It is in PDF format.

@Yardbird you should also take a look at the supplemental manuals created by Rick Christopherson. They are pretty helpful and detailed.

Ya it's a mixed bag for sure, just taking a quick look and there's no HL 850 planer manual, no ETSC/DTSC/RTSC manuals and no MINI I/MIDI I manuals. The MINI/MIDI thing is really bad because one version has Bluetooth and the other does not. Here's an example of the information that's needed to operate the MIDI I that's missing. If you only have the MIDI manual available, you'll never get the MIDI I to operate fully.

Thank you Cheese.  One of the items I purchased was a BT Midi.  I knew battleships had to be commissioned, but did not know I had to "commission" my Festools.  I plan to print this out and also plan to check out the Rick Christopherson supplemental manuals, especially for the Domino.

Festool’s manuals are and always have been sub par. I wonder if they are even produced in house or by a subcontractor.
The supplemental manuals are actually very good. Too bad they don’t cover the full range of machines…

Here's a link to the new Mini/Midi I manual on Festool's German site. It's in German first but the next section is in English

@Yardbird here's a link to another Domino brochure/manual/catalog that may be of some interest. It's under eBooks..."Domino Book".
