Auto speed on Carvex?
« on: September 23, 2011, 01:12 PM »
I was looking through the US Festool catalog last night and noted that Carvex has an 'A' Automatic setting on the speed dial. What does that do?

Controls the speed of the blade based on resistance.

It pretty much just runs slow constantly and as soon as you start jigsawing it speeds up to almost max speed!

It doesnt have a auto variable control like  shane is suggesting AND what you/me would think Auto means. I have tried it and it does not work like that!  No mater how soft or hard your wood is it just automatically speeds up to speed number 4!  The max speed is 5 so kinda strange really why it doesnt max out EVER.  I have had it going through OAK on Auto and it never reaches max speed    5 is alot faster than Auto.    Saying all this I always have mine on Auto as its saves battery having it running slow untill your ready to  start cutting PLUS it looks/sounds cool when other tradesmen watch and see it speed up and go wow did u just do that or did it do it it self!   I go yeah its AUTO! lol

So basically all AUTO means is  Runs at speed 1 untill you starting cutting it AUTOMATICALLY goes to speed 4 regardless of what your cutting.  Never goes to speed 2 3 5  so I dont understand how the speed alteres based on resistance as it never changes speed no mater how much or little resistance unless der is NO resistance then it will go down to speed 1 again

JMB, I have the corded version & mine does alter speed.  Like you say, it starts off slow then when you start cutting in speeds up but mine quite frequently slows down in the middle of a cut depending on what I'm cutting or if I start to slow down.  Do you have the corded version also ?
If its made of wood, i can make it smaller.
Shirt size medium
p.s- ive started reading these too

Mine is cordless!

So does yours vary speed or just like i said above  it just speeds up with no variable speed

I'm not sure what the actual speeds it fluctuates between are, how do you tell ?  I just know that depending what I'm cutting & the speed I push, the revs fluctuate.

oh well mine does non of that its either slow or Fast ( speed 4)  and if I set it to Speed 5 it goes even faster.  Their is no fluctuation of speed on mine ever regardless of timber.

In my defense, it's been about six months since I last touched a Carvex. Think it was at the JLC Northeast show in Providence back in March. So, my memory of how it works may not be right. I do know for a fact that it "idles" until it touches the material, then speeds up. But, I seem to remember it also varying slightly in speed based on feed rate. I could be wrong and don't have one handy to test it.
