1400 Router Baseplate screws
« on: November 06, 2010, 08:06 PM »
I just got a 1400 router and want to mount a large baseplate on it.  Though it's not mentioned in the documentation, it appears from other internet sources that the screws (part number 228737) are 4 x 8 screws. Does this mean they are 4mm in diameter and 8 mm long?
Also, the screws are a square (robertston) drive.  Is this a proprietary Festool screwdriver type or is it a standard size?  If standard, what is the size.

Thanks,
,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Chet

Chet, glad to see that you've finally made your first post.  [big grin]

According to our electronic parts catalog, the screws are M4 x 8's which are 4mm diameter x 8mm long, flat head. Some of the forum members have said to use 6mm if you do a search for other posts on the topic.

Without verifying with our service department, I can't verify and I don't personally know the correct screw size.

The M4 screws hold the stock base to the router.  To attach a sub-base, there are two holes with M6x1.00 (6mm diameter by 1.00 threads per mm) threads -- these are the mounting holes you will want to use.  See this post for a picture.

To add to Corwin's comment, the two M6x1.00 sub-base threaded holes are roughly 16.5mm deep, measured from the face of the stock base plate.
